I've tried PJ but £70 dearer than DL.
A firm called Hagerty a tad cheaper than DL with guaranteed value.

It's over 25 years old, and low usage

Try Peter James with classic,

They can only say no

Try H & R insurance in Aberdeen, I found them very good when I used to have my 1994 BMW M3.

H&R will not give me a quote on this particular vehicle. >:(

My renewal quote from Direct line has arriived today for our 1997 Merc SL500.

Price has increased from £305.16 fully comp in 2023 to  £406.49 on restricted mileage of 2k a year. All the excess have increased as well. Cover is Market Value of the vehicle & includes Green Flag break down, glass cover with an excess of £125, accident excess £500. Full NCB but not protected.

There were 9 pages in red ink of excusions & policy changes including Government Action, War or usurped power etc.

Anyone here who can recomend a Broker or Company for older vehicles that are not really classics, I seem to be paying more for less cover?

Back in the day most cars had number plate mounting holes fitted at the factory with a threaded dead eye or a plasic insert for a hex head type screw at the rear.

It was not difficult to affix a level plate - when I was doing new car PDI's and fitting plates on Vauxhalls & Opels if a plate was not level the foreman would send me back to the Stores to make a& fit a replacement.

Think it’s a wicked little bike, kept for a reason and cherished enough to put in a vac bag.

You lot are a tough crowd

Wendy's Freelander rear plate was a good 1/4 " out of level when we purchased it a couple of years ago plus it was not central in the boot recess.
When I removed the plate the holes drilled into the boot we're not level either.

Needless to say I sorted it.

I mounted the carbs in the workmate and made sure they were on the level. Frantic tapping of the bowl did nothing to free a sticking float (if that's what it was). Looking at the float valve needle with a pair of watchmakers glasses I can see a very slight ridge so this is probably enough to prevent the valve properly closing. I have a bag of old carb spares so I'll see if I have an old valve as fitting a full set of Keyster parts once before they all leaked!

I believe members here have used a mild abrasive to bed in used valves, I guess it's unlikely to work on a badly worn valve.

The bids will probably rocket upwards in the last 3 minutes I guess. 👍

My only observation about 400 carbs is anecdotal if the flooding is not when the bike has been running normally.

lf the bowls have little or no fuel in them you can get a situation where as the float bowls drop down down at an acute angle they rest against the bowl side causing a potential sticking incident.

This enables a situation where sometimes there is a jam of the valve in the 'gap' between the float bracket brassware and the valve seat  as it is out of the normal operating range/angle of seating due to the low fuel level in the bowl.

The above jam is such that even thought the petrol is pouring into the bowl the float is unable to rise as it should as the valve is stuck in the above 'gap'.

This does not happen as an event every time my fuel is switched on after being stood for a few days or drained over winter.

I have just rocked the bike from side to side whist astride my 400 this causes the flooding to stop pretty much immediately after any petrol in the overflow pipe has run out.

I suspect it is linked to the brassware attached to the float and possibly previous attempts to adjust the float level.

Yes that's the price each I think, mine were about £59.50  for the pair in 2022 so they will have gone down a tad.

Price updated.

Those Neutral switches  are like Dodo Eggs to find.
I have the spring contact part only but the tip is broken off it still worked though!
I believe Nurse Julie knew someone who repaired them at one time if you have an original worn or broken part..

Just found this information that I posted here a while back. I think I spelt Hendler wrong.

"I fitted these (Hedler) as they are probably a temporary measure until I restore my originals.
They are Primary  5.11 Ohms - S 17.55 Ohms  made by Hedler the spec is on Hedlers website p/n 540612H
I did not use the screws shown in the picture mounted them in the original saddle at each end.
I switched the wiring so the poitive marked terminal was on the ignition feed side."
https://www.hendler.co.uk/category/ignition-coils

Although this is the trade site you can still search the part number & find the coil specifications.

Yes I've bought from Chinese sellers in the past.
My issue is any warranty is generally worthless also returning goods often has costly  hurdles to overcome.
If I can buy from a genuine UK based firm with a known returns policy with good feedback I buy from a UK firm even though it might be a few quid extra, not one of the sham fronts that you find on eBay that is some sort of warehouse with no UK phone number.
