just had a reminder to see if I wanted to do the Welsh National Rally again,

I have done in the past few years, its a great excuse to explore Wales wonderful roads ,I covered over 300 miles each time, and really
enjoyed it,

It starts and finishes at Welshpool, this time on May 5th,

I know a few sohc members live around the area, why don't we enter, and work as a team ??

CB500/550 / Rear brake shoes
« on: November 25, 2017, 01:55:02 PM »
just received a set of shoes for my 500/K1

they didn't fit ,the mounting points were about 3mm to wide, and would have needed some refinishing to fit ,

 anyone had this issue before?
the part number PH316 from  DSS at Leiston,
they are going to check with an original Honda shoe, from their US base .

failing them have the right ones, were do I get a set ?

Other Bikes / help and advice needed
« on: September 09, 2017, 02:32:34 PM »
hi all,

you know I recently rebuilt a little RD125 Yamaha.
I have a problem.the points cam is badly corroded, and acts like a cheese grater on the points heels,

 typically these are unobtainable ,
so,could it be repaired the same as a camshaft?
worn surface cleaned p,and fresh metal applied, then machined back to standard??

 I thought of  camshaft makers/modifiers,
do you know anyone that may be able to do this work ?

 thanks in advance

CB500/550 / Brake pipes
« on: April 04, 2017, 07:03:50 PM »
about 4 or 5 years ago I fitted twin discs, during this I renewed the lower flexi brake pipesm,

fast forward to yesterday,,the MOT tester said I need to  renew both as the outer casing is cracked through to the inners,
bare in mind the original Honda pipe lasted about 35 years,do you think 5 years is satisfactory for a modern replacement ???

I prefer the covered look, not shiny mesh ,

 what do you think ?

not my own work, but found on another forum

(Winston Churchill loved them)

They are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected, & frequently humorous.

1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you.  But, it's on my list

3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright
until you hear them speak.

4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

5. We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

6. War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

7. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.  Wisdom is not putting it
in a fruit salad.

8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism.  To steal from many
is research.

9. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

10. In filling out an application, where it says, 'In case of
emergency, Notify:' I put 'DOCTOR'.

11. Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the
street with a bald head and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy.

12. You do not need a parachute to skydive.  You only need a parachute
to skydive twice.

13. I used to be indecisive.  Now, I'm not so sure.

14. To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first, and call whatever you hit, the target

15. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in garage makes you a mechanic.

Misc / Open / Mobile coverage
« on: December 15, 2016, 03:19:43 PM »
hi all,

after several years of using Giffgaff (on the O2 network) ,I am thinking of swopping to Plusnet ,using the EE network,

I know most networks work around bigger cities, and are hopeless out in the sticks,
the cost saving is only small, but I just want better !!!

I tend to get out and about both on the bike and by car,so your info would help, does your area have good coverage ?

do you know any "black" holes ?

in august I was coming back from North Wales, and got a rear wheel puncture, amazingly I had full phone coverage,!!
thanks all.

CB500/550 / up to using 550 pistons
« on: November 27, 2016, 01:03:40 PM »
I know its winter, and we can't get out on the sohc,so an idle mind starts to wonder1

if I ever wanted to rebuild the top end of my 500,and it needed a rebore and pistons, could I use  the original 550 std size pistons ?

they are 58.5 mm dia,use the same stroke, use the 550 gasket set,and still have 2 over sizes to go,

  any reason why not ??

and for future reference, what size should they be bored to ?  58.55 ?? or is that to tight ?

hi all,it will soon be christmas,so is it time to start planning for ride outs? meetings ??

april has a nice rideout for us near/in Wales

http://www.ridecymru.com/

 and then the Welsh Rally

http://www.clivemcc.co.uk/wnrforms.php

this is early may time,I did it for the first time this year, and it was great fun,

then,a visit to David Silver Museum,I know it will be like returning lots of spares back to were they were purchased from, but it
should be fun, worth noting, the museum is NOT open on sundays !! ,
if we can sort out a date, booking B&B and camping can be arranged ,

then the BIG one,how about the Classic/Manx TT,

what do you all think ??
