hi guys would like some tips to get my k3 running better. After 28 years in bits the engine now runs, but only on three cyls, no 4 is not firing. I have swapped plugs and checked timing, also opened gap on valves which seemed to improve matters slightly.New plugs points and coils fitted but only occasional spit back through no 4 carb, if plug lead taken off with engine running it makes no difference.When checked against earth plug has strong spark.Is it likely that it is a valve problem, the head and barrels were rebuilt by po, and i already discovered cam timing was well out!! Any ideas welcome, thanks,Mick

if you need nuts and bolts etc in mild steel or stainless screwfix direct have a good selection at fair prices, quick delivery or try local depot, may be easier/quicker than most.

hi everyone, well after getting the k3 started after 28 years in bits i have a problem.it will fire up for a few seconds using easystart but will not keep going.It seems to be a carb problem, the float chambers are full of fuel but dosnt seem to be getting through to the cylinders.I took the carbs off again to clean thoroughly, they seem to be quite clean anyway,but the jet that pushes into the bottom and has small holes in the side seems to be blocked.Should the central hole go from top to bottom as i cannot push a wire more than a few mm into either end, i have tried 3 up to now with the same result, including one from a spare carb.I gather carb problems are common on these bikes so any help appreciated, Mick.

Had to share this with you guys, my k3 started up today for the first time since 1982! Only for a few seconds with easy start, but it goes! This gives me motivation to go out into a cold garage to continue the restoration of this bike, aparently it was abandoned in 81/82 then purchased by the previous owner, who restored lots of bits over the years but never finished it, i bought it as a pile of bits.Hopefull it might be ready for summer.cheers, Mick

hi all, whats the latest on the standard 4/4 exhausts for the k3? I know genuine ones are not available but does anyone make a pattern set? i actually like the look of these,i have a reasonable set on my imported bike,this was the main reason i bought it (from DK motorcycles) to use as spares for my other bike.They would rechrome ok but at what cost,any idea anyone?

i have just checked on the web and my old cb500/4 is still around and insured. reg no CJV841L.Are you the current owner? would love to see it again maybe even buy it back!,regards, Mick

hello everyone just a few words to introduce myself and my bike.I have just returned to biking after 30 years! I have a honda cb550k3 purchased as a abandoned restoration project, lots of work done but lots still to do,and a second k3 for spares, an american import with original 4/4 exhaust which will probably be restored next. My favorite bike ever was my cb500/4 from 1973 which i customised back in the 70s such a sweet free revving engine and so reliable! Am enjoying reading the forums and getting lots of tips for rebuild,aren't things expensive! Have had good service from David Silvers and Ebay so coming on a treat, engine back in next job is getting it running for the first time since 1983 ! allegedly only 6000 odd miles from new.Anyway watch out for my posts i may need some help and encouragement!
