CB500/550 / Re: Handlebar sizes for 500

The 500 switchgear wires go through the bars. Take some pics of the switchgear and the bars themselves. If at all possible see if you can find original 500/550F bars, not 550K3 bars. I'll measure the top yoke and bars serrations on mine and see what they are.

Blue/red is correct for oil pump switch. Very common to see them like that, tended to get trapped when putting the cover back on.

Personally I have no idea why people think it's a good idea to fit screws which back in the day we couldn't wait to get rid of. Plus, they are willing to pay through the nose for the privilege. They weren't nicknamed putty headed screws for no reason. Far better alternatives available today.

If you are selling the old F2 stems can I have first refusal please Alex, especially if you’re selling the rears as well.

Any Honda dealer will order the modern ones for you. They use a very simple part number system, for example a flanged 8mm headed casing screw 32mm long by 6mm is part number 96000-06032-00. The 96000 part is the identifier of that type of bolt, 06 is the diameter of the bolt and 032 is the length, the 00 part is the colour generally. Some of these bolts are black so you’ll see that part change to reflect that. So if you want a 6 x 28 bolt you just change that part, so it would be 96000-06028-00. Measure an existing JIS screw and then see if the equivalent is available in modern Honda ones, some of the clutch case casing screws on the 550 for instance are quite long, one is 75mm and one is 80mm so try searching for 96000-06075-00 and 96000-06080-00 for instance to see if Honda made them that length, which after searching I can report they did.

It’s generally much cheaper though to buy a job lot off a breakers and just order the hard to find ones if you need any.

Well I bought the pedal and spring, I'll tidy the spring, replate it in nickel/zinc and sell it on. The pedal I'll have stripped, repair all the pitting and have rechromed, should sell easily after that.

Yeah, I've polished the rims and the edges of the spokes. Fronts done, just need to finish the rear.

CB1100 engine, which TBH is pretty poor in comparison to the CB1300 it's based on. I want the gearbox out of one of the later ones as it got 6 gears and the 1300 only got 5 and I keep looking for a 6th, so much so that I had to install a digital gear indicator to stop me.

Made my wife swear at me the other week, we were getting into the fact I spent so much time on the bike etc and I said "You're starting to sound like Ex Mrs Pimlott" and she looked at me funny and said " You haven't been married before" I just looked at her till the penny dropped and then she swore at me, I asked he when she'd been in the Navy and learnt all those nasty words, then she swore an awful lot more.

Didn't go last year Ted. Not been for quite a few years now.

It's in thousands of bit ATM John, the frame hasn't even been done yet. When it does start to go together progress should be swift as most of the other parts are done or mostly done. Not started the engine yet, but that's the fastest part to do IMO.

Doubtful I'll be there. 500 nowhere near ready yet. Might be later this year or might be done before July. It's coming on but it's very slow.
