Title: Oil leak at base of stator cover
Post by: Niko on March 29, 2017, 11:07:54 PM
Hi....had the bike running tonight. When it's running it drips oil from the stator cover.
Wiped it off and it all seams dry inside.

I read somewhere about an oil seal / oil gallery in that area....?

Can someone help me out with where it's located please?
Cheers

Niko,
If it is like the 400/4 DON'T start it with the cover OFF.
You will end up with oil all over the floor. (I made the mistake thinking it would be easy to clean the rotor :'()

Has the bike been stood for a while - I had a similar leak with a usa inport engine, decided as I needed the bike for work to ignore the leak and just keep the oil topped up until I had time to fix it, after a week of the 40 mile round trip to work the leak was gone and oil level stayed right between changes.

I know a guy who had a minor crankcase oil leak.  He didn't fix it as such; he bodged up a bit of tubing to direct the oil over his drive chain.  "cheaper than buying a Scottoiler" he said.

Fixed...turns out it was weeping from the cam chain tensioner bolt and running along the barrel case....dripping off the stator.
