Nice fabrication work.

I noticed that the seat tab example photo shows the tabs as a Z shape so that they've got more weld shear plane rather than just butt welded to the flat steel.

Did you have to heat the heavy gauge footpeg block while welding to get a good flow into the weld? As it's usually quiet difficult to get two different metal thicknesses to melt at the same time. I'm just interested in the method he's used.

Did you get a solution for the tank strap with that rubber section you have previously asked about?

Hi K2-K6,

Thanks. yes if you read the end of my last post this is what I am referring too, the ones that I will use on the bike will be welded along the flat section for strength, I also think these look neat just welded up each side of the flat. The torch would have been directed predominately towards the boss to prevent the sheet from melting away, aside from that I guess it's just experience!

Yes that is all sorted, more to come  :)

Cheers

Some stunning work going on here  ;D ;D

My 400/4 is a 1976 reg so will be trying for the historic tax this year.
Fingers crossed. ;)

the actual wording is "year of manufacture"

mine was registered in 1974,made in 1973,yours may be 1975 bike, only an age letter will confirm it

As Trigger says unless the transported it in a tardis.

CB750 / Re: Which Engine Oil should I use ?
« on: November 28, 2016, 12:38:44 PM »
The oil thread gravitational pull is starting.....

There is a standard for oil for wet clutches so clutch slip is easily avoided http://www.oilspecifications.org/articles/JASO_MA_JASO_MB.php

Gearboxes should also have EP additives to reduce wear, but you rarely see that bit debated, it's always about the clutch because that's where you can feel the difference.

Personally for road bikes I just buy any known brand bike specific oil, yes the prices are a rip off, but it saves having to understand all the oil threads. (for trials where the clutch feel is more important I use Motul 300v)

That is the reason to go for the Diesel one as it has additive’s for the turbo.
There has been many, many discussions on here about it and the people who are in the know recommend Diesel not petrol oil.

Paul check your cable routing if everything is new and it's still heavy, surprising just how much the routing affects the clutch feel.

Front mudguard looks like a Yamaha one from the 80s to me.

Oddjob,

Will do

Fitting the stays to the front one makes it look a bit better, and the brace looks correct, but the guard itself is wrong.
The back one is not nice at all - looks way too high.
Those bars would have to go too, but maybe that was the only way to get room for the clutch gismo.
Is it just me or does the frame look to have been painted with swingarm and engine bolts in place?
In the 7th pic the swingarm and engine mounting bolt look to have been painted black, as the frame.

Paul, maybe an obvious point but how is your cable?
My clutch was very heavy when I got the bike, a new cable worked wonders. I couldn't move the inner by hand when I tried the old one after removal.

All new Chris.

It is definitely the device that lightens the clutch action.
I could do with one on mine, can't believe how heavy it is compared with the 550 and the Z650. :(
