Desperately Seeking!! / HONDA CB 500 GENUINE HONDA MAIN 100 SIZE JETS.
« on: January 04, 2023, 03:18:05 PM »
Good Afternoon

I am asking if any one is breaking a set of carbs for a Honda CB500 627Bs, I am looking for a set of 4 main jets size 100 and a set of 4 idle jets size 40. I been told that you can get new jets from a company in Canada but they are not as good as they could be, So I am looking for anyone who is breaking a set of carbs or has a spare set of Honda original jets I could purchase.
Muttley's carbs unfortunately have been well messed with over the years with incorrect parts and washers etc missing or wrongly fitted this will account for the difficulty in starting and top end as the carbs have had smaller jets fitted for some reason both mains and idle.

If anyone can help me out I would be most grateful for any help

I like to recommend this company which I found on Ebay Vince supplies workshop tooling for Honda CB 550 & CB750 and other in the Honda range, He also supplies a very large range of other tools for other bikes both modern and vintage If you can't see what you want contact him and he is very helpful my order was shipped via next day service the tooling is of high quality no cheap Chinese stuff.  If you deal with him directly it may work out cheaper and quicker for you.

The website and ebay links are below.

Desperately Seeking!! / HONDA CB550K3 CLUTCH BASKET
« on: October 02, 2022, 10:17:09 AM »
Good Morning all

REASON
I have just adjusted my clutch to MM ( Maintenance Manual) this week but after about 25-40 miles the clutch seems to snatch and Neutral light does not come on but the clutch does not seem to slip when riding .

DAMAGE
On stripping the clutch down the steel pates are measuring  6x 1.19-1.20mm, 1x 1.54mm   Friction plates are measuring 6x 3.4mm, 1x 3.6mm outer plate.  But the clutch basket has a hair line crack running round the inside from rivet to rivet  and it also has signs of wear on the basket uprights (ridge marks )

Not sure if these can be repaired ? Or is this a common problem with these ?  Would any one have a spare one I could purchase that is in a good condition please

Nigel

Interchangeability / CB 750/550 Front Caliper
« on: September 11, 2022, 09:05:49 AM »
Good Morning All
Good Evening
I brought a CB750 / Cb550 calliper unit with arm assy from Ebay, I ordered a 550 calliper overhaul piston kit from Roger at Honda classic restorations Not realising that there are a couple of difference's that Honda made to the CB750 / 550  callipers over time & models
The calliper overhaul kit I ordered had a replacement piston Dia of 37.9 mm & a depth of 33.9 mm
The calliper of the spare CB750 has a calliper piston             Dia of 42.9 mm & a Depth of 33.60 mm

Also on the spare CB750 calliper it appears the the bolt hole spacings are slightly wider than on the CB550 k3 ones fitted to my bike currently. I also thought that 750 callipers all had 8mm bleed nipples this spare calliper from Ebay has a 7mm bleed nipple

From what I have read from the internet is that the Ebay CB750 calliper I have may be from a CB750F/F1 and CB750-K7/8 ??   Does anyone know if I can fit this calliper and pads with its arm assy onto 550 k3 standard disc ??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / FORK LEG RE- CHROMING
« on: September 07, 2022, 02:41:08 PM »
Hi ALL

I have just had my fork legs returned from A M Philpots in Luton ( as recommended by Julie & Graham) Wow what a fantastic service they collected them via courier all I had to do was to print off a lable for the courier and stick it on the box ready for them to collect 👍 😊,
My stanchions where mic-ing up to 34.19mm which I think from talking to others here on the forum could be why mine where always weeping slightly and as members are aware they need  to be 35mm for a CB550 / 750.
So had a chat to the managing Director of Philpots who said NP we can bring them back up to original spec of 35mm and check the trueness of them as well, They also do a rebuild service which comes with a 1 yr warranty 🤗 if needed
They use a overnight courier service which is great as I was contacted yesterday and got in my hand lunchtime today they came well packed and brought back by the same courier firm 👍

Overall very happy with the whole service and professionalism well worth the 4-5 wk wait happy to recommend them

Hi
I am Nigel & my faithful CB550 Muttley 🐕 (named as he's had 20+ owners over his lifetime )  Sadly due to a change in job I lost my ride partner this year as he has gone back to Mon-Fri 8-5, So riding out is now alone out over some of the best countryside in the UK , If anyone would like to join us on a ride out any day it is sunny and dry ( Muttley & I don't do cold & wet as where both over 50 yrs+ ) We mainly ride in the week or can do weekends, We are like steady away kind of ride out always riding for the enjoyment not to see how fast we can go from A-B. With coffee & cake 🧈☕️at our destination and then a relaxed ride back, Muttley & I normally cover between 50-100 miles on a ride out but are happy to do what suits others. Any make or age of bike is welcome to join us so if anyone would like to come we be happy to see you.

Best Regards

« on: June 16, 2021, 08:29:38 AM »
Hi SOHC

I am sure this has been asked many times before, I have tried putting it into the search but nothing came up "Muttley's" ( my Honda CB550)  4-1 down pipes are all going a light heat brown colour all down the pipes is there anything that you can clean them with to keep the chrome looking nice ? Or is the bike running to hot possibly due to incorrect mixture  bike seems to run ok  or is it the unusual hot weather where having

Any guidance on this would be appreciated thank you for taking the time to read this

Hi Guys
May I take this opportunity to recommend Roger Etcell at Honda Classics Restoration Services  ( email address roger@honda-classics.co.uk ) +44(0)1327 323 006  As you all properly know he runs a eBay site for Cb Honda parts but he also can supply other parts for your CB Honda Projects His prices normally are lower than that other Large UK supplier and his postage is more reasonable both which helps to keep your project on budget Orders from his Dutch supplier are done every Monday so if you need a part that needs to come from Holland you can phone up 1st thing on Monday and still have it in your hand towards the end of the week Everything I have ordered once dispatched has arrived the next day, So why not give him a try hopefully your like his service.
