I'll see what I have that could work for you.

That's true. However by putting the nut and spring washer at the bottom it's also visible to you as you ride. So if it was coming lose you'd have at least a chance of spotting it. Other way round and they are slightly hidden and thus first thing you may notice is the bolt missing entirely. The bottom pinch bolt would hold the leg I'd imagine until you got round to fitting a new bolt. Trouble is those bolts are chromed so they tend to be special order etc and not cheap.

If the bolt was the later 7mm bolt there are no D washers fitted to those but a K2 would have the 8mm ones as standard IIRC.

Parts book is fine for seeing correct parts but not for orientation IMO.

All of those parts of the rear indicator stem setup are very hard to find.

I MAY have some but I'd need to compare them to the originals as although they can look the same they aren't.

The 550F rubbers seem to be slightly bigger than any of those that look the same. The 500 ones for instance look identical but they are smaller and the 2 holes are closer together.

If they are right, I’d be very interested in them.

With such low availability, what have you guys done instead? Any good examples? The PO of mine have made a homemade setup and they are just grounded through the grab bar.

TBH there isn't a lot you can do. Maybe see if you can alter other brackets and rubbers. Or, and this is just something I'm experimenting with ATM, see if another grab rail fits. I have 4 grab rails, one NOS 550F, one 550F just being chromed, one 500 one and one I'm not sure what it's off except it fits the 500/550. The 500 and the last one both use slightly smaller rubber cushions and because of that you can then fit different indicator stems, the 550F stems are VERY hard to find. Even I have only 1 set. I'm trying to see if I can figure out what the 500 and the odd one will accept as rubbers and metal brackets. I was halfway there until I got Covid and TBH I've done nothing at all on the bikes or parts for almost a month now due to the after effects. I may start doing stuff next week as I'm slowly getting back to normal.

BTW, do you have the rear stems?

If the top yoke clamp bolts are 8mm then it's supposed to have D washers and yes they'd not rattle.

The pinch bolts are also supposed to be fitted so the nut is at the lowest point, so back of the yoke, this is so if the nut ever came undone only the nut and spring washer would fall off, if fitted the other way the entire bolt would slide out. Added bonus to doing it this way is that IF the bolt ever slid out it would almost certainly hit the tank, that would most likely dent or at least ding the paintwork due to the weight of the bolt, you may get away with the nut hitting the tank.

On the wiring diagram, the front signal lights have two wires and are grounded through the green wire. On the parts list for my bike, the front signal lights only have one wire.

How are the front signals grounded. Is that through the bolts in the sides of the headlight shell that then goes to a green grounding connector?

Yes.

How come your mechanic didn't spot they were fitted back to front?

You're going to need to dismantle that engine completely. The amount of loose dirt just sitting there right under where the barrels join means that it's a certainty that some has made it's way into the engine itself, you can't have any dirt/rust loose inside the engine or you're asking for a huge amount of trouble.

You can't assume everything is ok on the engine, you need to check and see.

As Bryan says, check the primary chain, rough check is to remove it, sit it on a flat surface upright, so it sits like a tank track. The more it dips in the upper middle the more worn it is, a new chain won't touch the bottom links, the more links that touch the worse it is. Check the primary chain dampers as well, check camchain blade, check camchain. You need to do this now, don't spend money on the engine until you're sure it's a good one.

Lot of surface rust on the cam lobes, if it doesn't just rub off you may need to get one of them reprofiled.

They used to use Castor oil in WW1 aircraft, however the fumes used to give the pilots the shits , so much so that after a lot of missions they had to hose out the cockpit.

Think of people behind you sucking in all that diluted castor oil, do you really want to make them shit themselves?  :) :) :) :)

They don't do a 550F though Ted.

The 550K won't fit, wrong harness.

I was lucky and found a NOS one for my 550F2, not 100% sure if I'll use it yet as the old harness is still in decent shape but until you try to use the old harness you can't be sure.

DS looms are well known for using the wrong colour wires.

Sure there was a thread recently with the colours converted to the Honda ones.

nothing, sometimes used for a steering damper.

I'd buy new float bowl screws, they appear too short and they are meant to be JIS screws with a split washer underneath so they don't vibrate loose.

The carbs also need bench setting, they appear massively out of balance looking at the adjuster screws.

IIRC when this appeared on this forum there was a 500 and a 550 engine. The one on the wooden shelf is a 500, you can see the pushrod seal and it has the gearbox drum retaining bolt on the upper casing, which IIRC the 550 doesn't have.
