It could be the cork parts of the friction discs are swelling with the heat. Could be they are getting real old and this is causing them to swell.

Suspect clutch more than gears TBH. Especially if it's related to heat.

TBH it looks like the bracket is bent out of shape, it should be flat and it should be threaded M6 x 1.00, that bolt could be UNF as it appears a bit coarser than standard.

IIRC.

1. Handlebar holder bolts
2. Fork top nut
3. Steering stem bolt
4. fork top bridge bolt
5. front fork bolt.

On my model it is here (blue arrow in pic below). It is conveniently positioned close to the tool tray, where I keep my USB connection for when I need it.

Surely that connector is under the tank next to the coils, if the horn wiring is next to it that's where it will be. It was originally there to feed the horn IIRC as the horn was fed by the black wire and the light green earthed it but they changed the way the wired it and in effect reversed the wires, hence why there is a small earth wire with a green band around it.

One nut that seemed to retain the chrome look was the upper shock absorber cap nuts and the big thick washers behind them.

Another was the pinch bolt for the rear brake arm on the rear brake plate. Same for the gear lever pinch bolt, some changed but some retained the chrome one.

Some fasteners do use an identifier on the end, modern Honda JIS screws for instance can be identified when they are black and also when they have a captive split washer, for use on handlebar switch gear for instance.

Oh just thought of another chrome bolt, rear number plate bracket ones, the 4 which attach it to the guard, they tended to be chrome with chrome washers, as did the rear light ones come to think of it.

According to the page it's a 79. The 80 started with a different prefix on the engine number.

Scrub that, looking at the frame number, it's looks like an 80 SC model.

Actually mate you may have to relace it. Just spotted that the inner spoke holes are recessed so the end sits inside. As you're one spoke hole out the ends of the spokes are now sitting proud and not sunken, whether this would affect them re breakages I can't say but for the sake of it I'd put them back where they are meant to be. Better to do it before fitting a new tyre.

If all the inner holes are countersunk then you're ok but from what I can see it looks like every other one.

Yeah you can see the marks the outer spoke left on the edge of the hub. Good spot.

CB500/550 / Re: Bottom cases dowel pins in when already put together?

Think the outside edge is thinner than the inside edge so the dowel doesn't go all the way through.
