Anyone know of a decent sprayer Notts-Derby area to spray a side panel. I've already got the base and colour paints (ready mixed for spraying) from RS Paints, sprayer to supply primer and lacquer. Any ideas?

Genuine Honda points obtained and fitted, also replaced capacitors. Fired up just great and runs fine. Thanks again to all who responded. Generated quite a lively debate but points won on points. I'll get my coat.............

CB500/550 / Ignition dilemma
« on: January 05, 2015, 06:52:22 PM »
Following the sudden and complete demise of the electronic ignition system on the 550/4 I am thinking of refitting the original system. I need to replace both  of the point asemblies and the capacitors. I can get Honda genuine points but they are five times more expensive than aftermarket items and Honda capacitors aren't available. What's the Forum opinion on this-is the genuine option worth the extra cash bearing in mind that the capacitors will have to be aftermarket? For less than twice the cost of the Honda option I could fit a new electronic system. Over to you and Happy New Year to you all.

Changed the plates for genuine Honda ones some 23000 miles ago-never had any problems with slip despite it being the lightest clutch lever I had ever encountered up to that time!

Fitted Newtronic system to the CB550F just after I got it in 1992-never had a moments trouble with it in 23000 miles. Still works down to 10.5 volts. Easy to put back old system if required.

Greetings all from a shed just south of Nottingham. For the past 22 years I've been lucky enough to own a  CB550F1 first reg. June 1977 which must be one of the latest ones. It's done some 65000 miles,22 of those '000s with me on it and it's never failed to get me home! Almost all of it is original ex-factory,I've replaced the front fender and complete exhaust system with the correct Honda parts, that was done some 20 years ago,the engine is on standard bores but I can't guarantee it's the original engine. I have done little to it other than replace the cam chain 8000 miles ago and replace the clutch mainshaft bearing last year. Still in its original paint, most of the chrome still excellent altho' a little faded on the wheel rims. It's a lovely looking bike and I have had people ask me if I restored it myself the reply being-`This is more or less as it left the factory' As regards handling I still think it out-handled the Hinckley Bonneville I once owned. Just for something completely different I've also got a 1953  Royal Enfield 350 Bullet Of which I know the complete history. Oh,nearly forgot-know all but the first5 years of the Honda's history. That's quite enough from me-will post some pictures soon. Bye all.
