Title: Any GS500 experts here
Post by: JonnyB on October 09, 2020, 07:48:40 PM
So I have a gs500e K3 2003. that won't start.

I've done the usual checks and I'm at the point where I've done a compression test and the right hand cylinder was down to below 60PSI. did the add a squirt of oil thing and it did not change so valves, yes?

Stripped the head . new valve stem oil seals, a de-coke and relapped the valves.

Reassembled recheck the compression and it's the same, no improvement.

Here's the question. one of the shim buckets was very, very stiff to get out and back in. Is it possible that the bucket is not returninh completly back and holding a valve open?

Could be a bent valve.

Yes thats possible and i have also seen broken guides but you should have seen that when you fitted seals. Non start can be a down or old battery as a lot of the electronic units need more than 10v when cranking to start.

Hi Jonny,

No instant answer for you but here is a link to a dedicated GS web site in the States. Some very knowledgeable and helpful people, hope it helps.

Got the GS sorted, turns out that one of the exhaust valves was slightly open, it's bucket and shim and I don't have the tools for it.  My mech mate, at Wrightway, Lincoln thinks that a PO dismantled the top end and put it back together wrong,

Just going over it now and reversing PO "customisations", like removing the black paint over the tail light cos it looked cool and putting full sized indicators back on it.
