Title: A cb360. Tyre choice
Post by: nairb on December 28, 2020, 05:55:40 PM
Well its time to get some new rubbers for those 1974 cb360 wheels.  They are 3.00x18 front & 3.50x18 rear.
The choice seems to be some Metzeler - ME77 front & rear Or some Dunlop K82's

Just wondering if anybody has tried either of these or have another suggestion.  I normally like Bridgestone Bt45 but there is not the same size match for these.

Thanks
Nairb

Hi Nairb,
I've used ME77s few times. Good grippy tyres. See if you can get a ME11 for the front though. Better stability in a straight line.

Yes I would prefer the ME11 for the front but they only come in 3.25x18.
Would a 3.25 still fit the rim??.  Nearly twice the price also.

If a 3.25 will fit it gives even more options.  But an me11 front & me77 rear is a good option.

Lets not forget this is a 46 year old 360cc bike.  Not like one of the rampant power beasts of today.

Thanks

So I found a set of tyres on the Demon Tweeks website...... 3.25-18 & 3.50-18 rear (Metzelers). The site said they would be in stock in 10 days.  A quick phone call to Tweeks confirmed that they should be back in stock within 2 weeks.
I placed the order..... Today I had a confirmation email stating the tyres will be back in stock early March.  2 Months time.  Not the 2 weeks as said over the phone.

Do I wait the 2 months ?? or cancel.  The deal is good value compared to other suppliers.  But will they be on time in 2 months.

The other option - Pneus Online doe not supply to the Uk at the moment.

Difficult to trust a company that says one thing on its website and something else when they have the money.  Annoying.

Try M&P BUT  make sure they understand that you dont want any subsitution, last time i ordered they sent me a lasetech insted of a me 11, that cock up cost them a fortune as they had to collect and sent me Contis for the same price when they were £30 dearer!!!

If you use M&P make sure they are in stock ring them.
I ordered a set of Conti RB2/K112 before Christmas which were in stock according to the web site.
They then said a week, after the week they then said a month.
I got a refund no problem.
Apparently they are all struggling with tyres at the moment.

Might be worth checking National bike tyres.
I had similar issues before Christmas with another supplier but got K82s from National without any problems.
Cheers,
Andy

I have had a rear Avon Trailrider for my Aprilia on order since early November.
They phoned me last week and said about another month.

So it would seem its not that unusual to have to wait ages for a delivery from DT.

I normally get tyres from National bike tyres.  They have always delivered within week.
In the end I settled for a set of Metzelers A ME11 3.25-18 front and an ME77 3.50-18 rear.

Here is what I found
National Bike tyres             front Me11 3.25-18       118.00      rear 69.00      187.00
Brooks barn                                                          87.00             80.00   167.00
M&P                                                                     111.00             68.00   179.00
demon tweeks                                                       67.00             61.00   128.00

It seems that DT is/was the best option.  There is a quite a saving in the front tyre ftrom DT.

I do have the similar set on the cl450 except the front is an me11 3.25-19 which is half the price of the 3.25-18
I can live without the tyres until march if I have too....... but having just rebuilt the wheels I would rather get on and finish them.  Will a 2 month wait turn into a 3+ month wait.

For those who are or might have to wait for tyres from Demon Tweeks .......  They said I would get delivery of a set of  Metzelers by the start of March or later.
Yesterday I had an email saying they are ready for dispatch.  And today they have arrived.  And the dot code is within the last 3 months.  And at a good price.
Good work from Demon Tweeks.  No extra charges.  No extra carrier/tax to be paid.

So thats a couple of jobs to be done..... fitting them.
