Title: Lower rear engint bolt length
Post by: eight0 on October 19, 2019, 12:30:27 PM
I'm just trying to fit some 'bolt on' rear sets which are meant for a 550k. Apparently they will fit the F model (which I have) with some slight frame modification which I've done.. but the lower engine bolt doesn't seem to be long enough.

Do the K and F models have different lower rear engine bolt lengths?

No...they are the same.

They should be a tad shorter than the 750 and all 550's are 335mm  ;)

Ok thanks for the info. It's about 25mm too short which is annoying. I've emailed cognito Moto.
How much longer is the 750 one? Are they the same diameter?

If you have bought a lower rear mounting bolt from cognito Moto I, would think they sell them at the length for no foot peg mounting  ;)

The SOHC 750 one is about 10mm longer at the same diameter.

actually the k is a longer bolt as the footrests are mounted at each end and the f1 and f2 have a folding footrest on the right which is mounted on the frame.

Yes Mick you are correct on the F1 & F2. And this is a bolt with a head and the K is a bar with threads on each end. There is a location lug on the frame on the right side  ;)

The problem with the yanks is they refer a F as a four and we refer a F as a F1 & F2.

Well that's got to be why they don't just bolt on!  ;D
So maybe I can source a K bolt and it will be long enough?

You are building a a custom and that means all parts are non standard. If you mount standard foot pegs on the engine hanger bolt on a F1 or F2, the foot pegs will be too far forwards and too low.

Would help if you show a picture of what you are trying to achieve  ;)

Sorry trigger yes that might help.

The bike isn't at my place so can't take a close up now but you can see the cognito Moto rearset bracket. It's basically supposed to bolt on to the pivot bolt and the lower engine mount. Pivot bolt is long enough, lower engine mount isn't.

I have a few engine bolts, if you can measure what length you want I can see if I have one.

Thanks oddjob! It will be a couple of weeks before I'm back in the garage now but I'll let you know.
It just needs to be ~20 - 25mm longer than the one I have.
