Thanks for the positive vibes guys 'n gals, just taking it one step at a time, don't worry, no suicidal thoughts or any crap like that, I am staying positive, don't know what the future holds as I can't fund a retirement just yet so will still have to earn a crust for a while, but being your own boss for the last 30 years makes it even harder to think what I can do, I have only ever been in one profession all my life and the thought of picking up all I have lost doesn't bare thinking about so will probably get a mundane job that doesn't use too many grey cells as I am losing them at a rapid rate as well. :o
I will keep you updated with the project as soon as I can kick myself into gear.
Cheers
Mike

Hi folks, apologies for the long silence. Just to keep you up to date as to why I have been so quiet, well on 26th of November I lost my business to a catastrophic fire that has basically put me out of business for good. I managed to salvage a lot of tools and machines and have now clogged my garage up to the max. I am currently battling depression as you could imagine. My wife has been so supportive I can't thank her enough. Winding the business down has been very stressful and I can't even phone the people concerned without going into meltdown, my poor wife has had to do everything. Everyday is a great effort for me, even getting out of bed is an ordeal let alone getting my life back on track. Who knows when I will be in the correct state of mind to get the project kick started again but I know in my heart it will be on the road come hell or high water!
Time is a great healer, I just hope it don't take too long!

Cheers
Mike

CB750 / Turning an engine upside down
« on: November 14, 2016, 08:50:26 PM »
I need to turn my engine upside down to strip the bottom of paint. The engine is all together and have no reason to split the engine as it has just been rebuilt. I have it mounted on an engine stand that can flip it through 360 degrees. I have drained as much oil as I can as I need to change the sump plate. My question is this, is it OK to leave the engine upside down for any length of time, will any oil get into places it shouldn't and cause any problems? I did have oil run out of the stater cover bolts when I had it on its side. I am trying to minimize any oil getting onto the aluminum I have just stripped for obvious reasons.

Misc / Open / *Yawn* Engine paint recommendations
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:19:04 PM »
OK folks, before you shoot me down in flames, I have spent the last few hours researching the forums for paint information. I am ready now to spray my engine and cant find any real hard info on what to use, I know there are lots of different brands and suppliers but no definitive answers to what is best. I see that POR15 is mentioned but this does not say that it is heat resistant or designed for engine use. There is stuff out there that also isn't fuel proof, some that looks good but holds the dirt after a while and some that scratch easily. So is there a one paint does all solutions out there? I only want to do this job once and I want to do it so it lasts.  :-\ :o :(

I had the same thing when I was dabbling in my cases. Yes the picture is correct. Some Muppet had put mine at the back as well.

Hi Pops, things have slowed down a tad, life keeps getting in the way and a 3 week holiday in South Africa hasn't helped. lol :o ;)
I have had to take the frame back to the painter today to just smooth off a few areas I wasn't happy with. I picked up the oil tank as well. Now that has been transformed from what it was. Will do a pic when the sun shines. I am at the halfway point stripping the old paint off the engine ready for re-spraying. Then it's shoulder to the wheel to get it all back together, hopefully be on the road for the next riding season.  8) :)

I had this kz for 7 years and it gave me no problems at all.  ;D I took it for an MOT once and just before the end of the MOT a VOSA man came in and went back over it with a fine toothed comb, glad to say he found nothing wrong. lol
Obviously an import, the U.K. models all had comstar wheels as standard, unless they were changed by yourself or a previous owner.
Correct, it was an American import, the other obvious giveaway is the single disc up front.

Got my frame back from the painters today, and what can I say! Unfortunately the pictures don't do it justice.
Blue candy over fine silver flake base. Looks stunning in the sunshine. Still waiting for the fuel tank and oil tank. :(

CB750 / CB750 MPG
« on: July 21, 2016, 07:56:11 PM »
What would be an average MPG for a k6 CB750. My chop only has a 2 gallon tank and was wondering how far I would get on a tank full. I think I might have to change my speedo to one with a zeroable tripmeter.  :o

My chop is busy undergoing painting right now. From sandblasted metal to primer, silver metalic undercoat with silver flake, topped off in blue candy. For frame, tank, rear mudguard, oil tank and mustang fuel tank, including filling frame welds etc. Grand total of 1k. Making my eyes water a bit but it will look stunning when finished. :)

Not quite sure what you would call these? Probably cable tidies/guides would sum them up.

Welds all tidied up, and fillets put in.

I knew it was going to be bad after sand blasting and I wasn't dissapointed! lol

Originally the tank was chrome. Been hacked about a bit.

Nice and clean now.

All in the hands of the painter now!  :D

1/5/16

I decided to sand down the edges of the fins as they looked a bit rough, polished up a treat with some good old elbow grease.

Started the final strip down.

Frame is now having all the welds that couldn't be reached welded up neatly and all dressed, and some frame gussets inserted as a last minute decision. Then going to get the frame and tins shot blasted, then it's off to the painters to make it all pretty. Getting stoked on this now!
