CB750 / Oil Hoses K and F« on: January 31, 2011, 08:11:14 AM »
Hi everyone,
I recently got some really nice oil hoses from a 1975 K model from the US .Very expensive but nice condition plus I got stung for import duty and Royal Mails fee. One hose is longer than my original K0 hose and ChrisR spotted this and told me they are probably from an F model (with the 392 part no not 300). My K0 hose is 175mm between ferrules and the USA bought one is 195mm. I appreciate that at one point in production the K model hoses were moulded to a curved contour to match the installation because of the straight hoses kinking and restricting oil flow. The guy I bought them from is adamant they came friom a K oil tank not an F. Anyone know the differences? I need to clear this up with him ASAP. He does seem an honest guy though. Cheers!! AshD 710
CB750 / Grooving bearings« on: January 26, 2011, 07:14:47 AM »
Saw a thread on Pete's restoration of F2 but don't want to hi-jack his thread.
Does anyone know the engineering procedure for grooving bearings like the Honda gearbox ones? I appreciate that these are C3 high speed bearings and you can get a standardd grooved type but the groove is too wide. Another option I have seen described on the SOHC site is to make a special modified half ring retainer which is stepped. i have access to full engineering facilities part from centreless grinding. I do appreciate you can get the special bearings from Honda so that's another (expensive) option. Well I am a Yorkshireman after all!!!!! BTW just read the MCM 'Engine Analysis' from '74 which says not a sign of roller bearings in the SOHC 750 engine. They must have forgotten about the two caged needle roller bearings in the primary drive assembly? Cheers!!! AshD Cheers Ash 711

Tricks & Tips / My 'home made' Cb750 K0/Sandcast alternator Sub-Harness« on: January 07, 2011, 10:17:18 PM »Here is a link to a pic of my K0 'home made Alternator sub-harness, Can anyone tell me if the sleeving on the neutral switch looks correct for Sandcast/early K0. It's different to the Yamiya one but I reckon the Yamiya one is not faithful to the original. ChrisR kindly sent me a picture of a used early one. This has taken me almost a month of research to find the correct materials. I could not use the multi way connector supplied By Vintage Honda Connections because it was different to the original, so I ultrasonically cleaned an old one which has not 'scrubbed up' too badly. His crimps supplied with the multi way were correct though and fitted perfectly into a genuine shell. the outer sheathing is rubber and the braided sleeving (two sizes) is silicone impregnated woven glass. The sleeving ends are covered with clear 3-1 ratio heatshrink tubing (tape on the original I think) and the neutral switch eyelet is covered in a Raychem heat shrinkable, adhesive lined coupling sleeve. http://www.yamiya750e.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=21_58&products_id=73 Watch this space for a correct 'home made' replica braided battery earth lead. The Yamiya one is definitely incorrect and a very poor copy, in my view. The correct cable has soldered lugs and a braided outer - multi strand inner http://www.yamiya750e.com/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=485 This one looks correct though: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-CB-750-Four-Sandcast-Massekabel-Original-/220632204569?pt=Motorrad_Kraftradteile&hash=item335eb44519#ht_500wt_725 Cheers for now AshD 715

CB750 / MCM Jan 78 Article« on: November 26, 2010, 09:43:37 PM »
Hi,
Somewhere in the dimmest deepest past I read that you can bead blast the CB750 exhaust heatshields to make them look like the satin chrome of the early K0/Sandcast bikes. I have a brand new bright chrome set of these but seeing as DSS now charges 135GBP plus VAT for a pair!!!! I don't want to blast them unless I know its going to work out OK. I seem to think it was in MCM Jan 1978, which I do have a copy of somewhere but in the deepest bowels of my loft somewhere. Cheers Ash 720
