First thing to do, especially if the bike is new to you, is a full service, ok the vac gauges are not cheap but depends on how long you are going to keep the bike.
They do clatter and bang at tickover unless all sevice items are spot on and sometimes even after.
Cant think of anything particular that would cause your noise, these engines can do phenominal miles if oil and filter changes kept up.
Hi  Yes I agree did a full service when I first got it oil change, filter. brake master cylinder rebuilds, helicoiled all stripped threads, carbs, etc
Engine sounds fairly sweet when in neutral, just when I put it in gear the clanking starts (on paddock stands). Not actually run it on a road yet due to DVLA losing my paperwork for a month costing me £25 for duplicate V5 then original paperwork coming back to me from DVLA in post day after. Will get it insured soon and try it out on road as its now showing as taxed DVLA web. >:(.   Hopefully it wont break down on test drive. Just trying to get it right before riding it. ;D ;D

Don't forget, if you are not used to these bikes / engines, what you are hearing could be totally normal. Dies the clunking get quieter above 2k RPM ?
It does get quieter as speeds up I will check if it goes above 2k rpm, but it does sound very loud to me anyway! Just I remember when riding a matchless back in the day my mate got a Honda dream which was very quit compared ;D and the gold wing I borrowed for a few months was quiet too ;D ;D

Nope, it's an engine out in one complete lump job. You can't even get the rocker cover off these engines with it still in the frame  :'( If it's the cam chain, once you get the engine out of the frame, it is the top end that needs to be stripped. If it's the primary chains, that's a complete engine strip.
hence why I could do with a competent  mechanic. :) :D

They are no more difficult than a single and way easier than a British twin, sound could simply be loose or bad chain and/or sprocket.
Go to alladins cave and download the appropriate manual then with a decent 3/8 six sided metric socket set and an impact screwdriver you are good to go.
Unfortunately its not the chain I have checked that, unless its the primary chain in which case according to the manual its a cylinder head off job :-[

Hi I have some problems with my Honda CB750 F1 problems I don't think I can tackle on my own. So as the title, does anyone know of anyone competent around the Leeds area who can help? I think I have a problem something to do with the gears they engage OK and drive the wheel OK but at low revs there is a horrible clunking sound. this seems to be coming from the alternator area but cant figure why placing it in gear would affect the alternator! Basically looking for someone who can sort it as I dont think I have the knowledge or nonce regarding a multi cylinder machine.

Hopefully it will be a good one can’t ride it till I get the uk registration back I have sent the nova certification and deed of title so it’s a waiting game lol
Hi and welcome hope you get your registration back soon from dvla. (they lost my application for historic vehicle tax class which cost me £25 for duplicate V5C) Lots of good information on here.

CB750 / What size bulbs
« on: August 12, 2019, 09:13:37 PM »
Can I use ordinary bulbs in this cluster or must I get Honda bulbs which seem quite expensive (as does everything else I need)
If so what would you recommend.

To get the bulb holders you will have to put your hand deep in your pockets.
No wonder then why they are missing  >:(

CB750 / bulb fittings

I presume the empty holes in my clocks are for lighting them. I have searched the internet for fittings but am at a loss. Can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain the fittings and wiring.

CB750 / Removing outer gearbox cover
« on: August 02, 2019, 07:55:13 PM »
Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I understand the gearbox on a cb750F1 uses the same oil as the engine, being used to gearboxes with there own supply of oil. If I remove the outer gearbox cover will the total supply of oil be drained or just what is present in the gearbox?

CB750 / gearbox cover
« on: July 27, 2019, 07:12:50 PM »
Can anyone tell me the size of the bolts which fasten the gearbox cover.
I have some stripped threads in the casing it attaches to and can think of two options.
1. order a helicoil kit. (size)
2. use a thread fixing compound such as loctite forma thread (any one used this with any success?)
Thanks for any replies/advice.

« on: July 22, 2019, 07:41:22 PM »
Can anyone tell me if using semi synth oil in my F1 will cause clutch slip or should I try obtain 10/40 mineral oil which seems to be a rare commodity apart from obtaining on the internet.
thanks for any replies.
