One push mile, apparently...

Thanks for posting :) Just saved all of the photos as an excellent reference on finishes, toolkit etc... like the carb linkages are zinc plated, yellow passivate ..which I always knew to be correct but many people argue was bluish passivate.
Showing some signs of light corrosion on zinc plated parts (spokes, rear torque arm etc) and crankcases but looks pretty genuine to me.
Interesting to see what it makes £10k perhaps?
-
Who knows what it will go for but your estimate of 10K seems pretty close to me. It's a very rare beast indeed.
Yes, the images are a really useful resource - downloaded as well!!!
-
Couple of observations though .. not sure that front disc looks 'as new' and where is all of the yellow paint on nuts etc?
-
Yes, the disk does look anomalous.
Also:
[attachimg=1]
I'm not sure is right - I thought where the speedo cable routes through was more "wire like", like this:
[attachimg=2]
at least it is on my 75 400F - maybe it changed in later versions? I have a repro stay that looks like the one shown.
That said, I have limited knowledge of these machines and as we know, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing :)
Maybe some bits have been swapped out?
In any case, it still looks very interesting bike...
-
The cable guide on earlier UK model (which also had the front number plates on) was different .. it was a 369 part as used on the CB250G5
I created a Dropbox folder with the pics in :) link below:-

Cheers Ash, was just about to download them all, saved me a job.

Love this forum - you learn something new every day!

Engine number at odds with write up info, wiring harness around headstock?? Still a nice thing though but what do you do with it? Thanks Ash for archiving the pics.

If it was bought for parts in crate, then possibly not assembled by a dealer to the exact dealer set-up instructions.
Dropbox link is now included in my Dropbox section ;)
-
The problem with this type of unused bike is what do you do with it? if you use it, it becomes just another used bike, but bikes are made to ride. Or it becomes a museum exhibit, useful for restorers for reference but who has £10k for that?

No worries .. it doesn't appear in some online parts lists including the ones on here but here it is:-

I've registered with the auction to bid on it, only because I buy things I don't need , don't want and don't know what to do with in the winter when the weather is shite and I can't get out riding often enough 😊😊😊😊

> only because I buy things I don't need , don't want and don't know what to do with

I'm thinking of putting a pedal on each end of the crank and using it as an exercise bike 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes thanks Bryan 👍👍👍

If you get this (and I really hope you do) will you be performing a teardown like Hettie! Would be a fantastic project on this site if you do...

I'm definitely going to bid on it and I've already decided what my maximum bid will be. If I do end up owning it, I will see it as a project bike. It may, or may not have done only 1 push mile but its been sitting around for not far off 45 years, that to me is a huge negative. So yes, the bike will be totally stripped and rebuilt.
Edit.... This bike was discussed a couple of years ago on Facebook. I can't remember if it was put up for sale back then and if it was I can't remember if it sold or not.
-
Found it.... It sold at Bonhams. September 2018 £7500.

Let Graham put a cheeky .99p bid in for you Julie you never know with his luck ;)

That CB400F is a good restoration basis

Graham should be bidding on the 1st UK batch CB750 in the same auction ;D
https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa078a-lot-17436-1970-honda-cb750-k0-750cc?el=17436&pn=1&pp=100
They have updated the listing now since I emailed them about all of the errors but still not corrected the engine number !
-
Well, I did bid on it £4,500 and then I got outbid 😂😂😂😂 which is all is was worth to me, but it went for £14,200 + buyers premium, VAT etc, etc
[attachimg=1]
[attachimg=2]
-
Blimey
-
So that's £16330 for something that needs work and you can't use!
Ian

To me, this was the star of the show, just stunning.

Maybe someone thought the same about the 400F and at 16K it seemed like a bargain by comparison
-
The shame of it all is that most of the overpriced bikes will never see tarmac. There seems to be a view that anything with an ICE will be worth a packet in 20 years time.
-
Wow ..so that was a good investment for the PO
Anyone know what the 1st batch UK CB750 went for?
-
I've got to say, you've got to ride the buggers. Sure, spend as much as you want but ride the bloody thing. That said, I may have recently broke mine but that's for another post!
-
That NorVin looks like Ogri’s bike.
New owner better have good security. I’d hate to have that guy after me…

Was that the hammer price Julie? or with fees ? I know the man who restored that bike ..just hoping he's Ok ..lost his contact number.

So with the buyers fees etc the buyer paid £21,896 for the UK K0..nice.

Are those sums correct James ... I am always confused by the fees.

17k + 15% = £19550?
Chris R.
-
I think Chris R’s figure of £19550 is correct. The Silverstone buyers guide states a premium of 12.5%+VAT.
12.5% of £17000 is £2125
VAT @ 20% on £2125 is £425
£17000 + £2125 + £425 = £19550
However I stand to be corrected. It's my interpretation of the wording in their buyers guide.
-
Maybe auction house price is inclusive of fees but not VAT .
-
You are all correct and I’m a numpty. Combination of beer drinking and not reading the figures properly lol..this week I’ve been mainly doing this…

Is that the French Alps James? What's the snow like?
Grimbergen is my favourite tipple. Have a few for me!!!

Whilst it looks fantastic it's obvious to everyone you would rather be in a cold shed restoring a police Honda😉

I have but prefer the standard brew. A bit sweet from memory but everybody's pallet different!!

Images of various types of pallet are now revolving in my head…

Oooooopppps. Can't use the usual spell predict excuse, simply poor education!
-
‘Wheat’ and ‘beer’. I really don’t like it.
-
It will be a Euro pallet surely Bryan, Grimbergen is Belgium beer.
-
So is Stella and that's brewed in Wales and Salmesbury
-
Wow that was sky high. You would be to afraid to use it and it's actually not that pretty close up to look at like a restoration. My 500 with 4500 miles looks better preserved than that.
