Having replaced old brake linings with replacement from wemoto I've noticed that the outside of plate that holds them gets hot , by backing off nut on rod adjuster slightly it's not so bad but still gets warmish. If I back it off anymore I'll have no rear brake! Any thoughts or is it just bedding in problem?

Could be, try loosening the main axle the holding brake on to centralise shoes whilst tightening axle. There isnt a lot of clearance between plate and axle but it might help
