CB350/400 / Fuel everywhere...
« on: August 11, 2013, 08:00:03 PM »
Just a quick one to confirm my thoughts....I fired up the 400/4 today at long last after complete renovation and engine rebuild, and amazingly it runs and idles really well but unfortunately while the fuel is turned on it also runs from all the carb 'overflow' tubes.  Float heights wrong or needle valves stuck?  Or any other problem as it flows from each of the tubes?

Thanks, Mick.

CB350/400 / Horn wiring...
« on: July 31, 2013, 05:41:29 PM »
Next thing that's puzzling me is the wiring for the horn.  The diagram indicates Light Green going to a dot inside the broken line and I have no idea what that means.  Also, the only spare wire from the loom that I have is a very pale mint green colour.  I presume that the green wire with the ring connector is to earth?  I'm not far off finishing the bike now so help with these last puzzlers is greatly appreciated!

Ta, Mick.

CB350/400 / Front brake junction fitting?

I can't seem to find how the front brake junction fits to the front fork assembly - anyone help?

CB350/400 / Handlebar switch assembly
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:31:43 AM »
I know this is a long shot but can anyone help with reassembling the handlebar switches, namely the R/H one.  I've possibly lost a ball bearing (along with a few marbles...) and I've got a little clip type thing from somewhere.  I took ref pics during disassembly but of course springs and things pooped out when I was least expecting it.  :-[

Cheers, Mick.

CB350/400 / Indicator wiring
« on: February 13, 2013, 11:02:24 PM »
I'm just onto mounting the indicators and each one has a single black wire coming from it, yet on the wiring diagram there are two wires from each indicator.  Anyone help me out with the connections / purpose of the other wire?

Thanks again, Mick.

CB350/400 / Instrument mounting?

If anyone gets a chance could they possibly help me out as to how the clocks fit onto that weird bracket.  I don't know if It's the cold, tiredness, old age or I'm just thick but I could not figure out how they fit!  :o

CB350/400 / Carb manifold woes!
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:56:13 PM »
Refitting the carb manifold is proving to be a right pain!  After 4 hours I've come to the conclusion that something must be amiss, so after checking the manifold stubs it looks like one of them is shorter than the others - is this right, and if so what cylinder should it be on?  As usual, the bits that should be straightforward are turning into the jobstoppers.  Aaaarghhh!!!! >:(

CB350/400 / rear brake arm / spring
« on: November 12, 2012, 09:10:34 AM »
Can someone inform me as to the correct fitting of the rear brake arm & spring assembly please?  I've got it all in but the spring for the brake light switch is far too loose and of course will not hold the switch in its bracket.  I've probably got the spring wrapped behind the wrong bit of frame or something...

Cheers, Mick.

CB350/400 / Castellated clutch nut removal
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:13:23 PM »
Righto, now I'm getting stuck into my project and, like someone said somewhere "an old motorbike is like a box of chocolates..."  Apart from two scored cylinders from broken rings and two snapped exhaust studs (any tips and/or ideas welcome), I've now got to the clutch removal bit.  I've got the tool to fit the nut but will it move?  Nowt.  So before I try anything of my own invention does anyone have the knack to this, namely, how to hold the centre from turning? ??? ???

Cheers, Mick.

New Member Introductions / Going back to my youth...again
« on: May 16, 2011, 05:36:58 PM »
Hi guys, Mick from Buxton in Derbyshire.  After the idea had been rattling around in my cavernous skull for some time I bought a 400/4 wreck to try to bring back to life, and also bring back a bit of my past life, as this was my second bike many years ago.  I followed the path of many others before me (er, well just Google really...) and arrived at the SOHC/4 site, introduced myself there and SteveD pointed me to our own group here (that's the problem with Google - too USA biased).   Already picked up some great tips and ideas so hoping for even more relevant stuff on home turf!
My operative bike is a Triumph Legend which was poorly when I got it, as was the Thunderbird before it.  I learned everything about them from the Hinckley Classic Triples forum and am now able to pass on my knowledge to others new to the foibles of these machines.  I'm hoping to do the same here  ;D
