Funny I took mine out today on a 500...
I burnt the rubber out with a blow torch..and the inner lining just fell out
Then I lightly scored the outer right sleeve with a hacksaw then folded it in with a chisel...popped right out.

I suppose not the ideal way if your just replacing them but if the swing arm is out and going to be painted as mine is ...worked a treat no swearing and not a great deal of violence ...pleasantly surprised..

And get some measurements

Could the larger casting take a brake arm stay to hold a drum? (The other set)
I've had these for years they came with a load of other honda 500 parts..
I never realised how much bigger they were than the 500 forks
Must be off of something large gl cbx
I just cant place them at all

After looking at my various options..
I have 2 sets of tank badges here
Both original old 70's
Both sets for one reason or another look very anemic on the gold....so without any cleaning they are already very silver..especially on the top edge
Looking at various pictures on the net of new ones they are very golden...

So I bought a new set ..broke the bank but they turned up today and are just perfect.

The tank has new paint and will be fitted with nos filler cap and a nos mole trim set and nos tap So a flaky set of badges would have just let it down...

I will probably at some point sell the spare sets on and recoupe some of my 90 quid outlay on the new ones

There we go

CB500/550 / Tank badges
« on: July 21, 2019, 06:55:10 PM »
I'm about to refurb a pair of 500 tank badges..
Has any one got any pointers..
I've found humbrol satin white 130 is as near as damn it to the original colour ..
And I reckon I can brush flood the badges.

My question is are the original 323 badges brass colour all the way or is it a coating so if I flat back the raised surfaces on a face plate will it stay golden ? Or buff back through to monkey metal?

The black should be relatively straight forward to brush in?

Thanks in advance
