Mihai, how did you find the air leaks and where exactly were they?

I sprayed some brake cleanner on the carb manifold..the ones from the engine. When i sprayed the engine started to rev more.
The o-rings from the manifold were in real bad shape..i replace them and the air leaks stoped.

I had almost the same problems with my CB550k 1978. Rebuild the carbs, timing, valve adjustment and carb sync but idle was way off..and the cyl 1 somethimes not fired.

Turn out there was a bunch of causes:
1- there was some air leak ant cyl 1 and 4
2- the timining was not ok..i discovered only with the strobe light...i removed the advance cleaned, put it back, retimming with the strobe..is ok now
3- i changed all the sparks plug and spark plug sockets (NGK)
4-I got low compression 7-7-8-8..its a bit hard to start in cold season but during summer in ok

The main reason for not idling was the air leak, and the main reason for not firing cyl 1 was bad timing!

Good luck, you will need it, I geuss it is the bike closest to the camera? What shape are the remains of the engine in? It might be far cheaper to fix if you can use what you have - and buy a camshaft etc, but if it is full of rust you may need a whole new engine which is likely to be better off being palleted to you with a big job lot of parts if you can get them all gathred together with one seller or something.  That bike could cost a lot to restore but a bit less if just getting it going. Still not likely to be cheap.
Yes..is the one closest to the camera. The other is a cb650 that come it the cb..i took it for wheels, tank and others parts.

The engine is just half of it and is stuck...rust, water etc..the worst situation!

Now i am looking for a cb550 without title or any papaers in order to make a bike from two...i found some CBs 550 in Poland.

Thats not a 550, or at least a lot of the visible parts are not
The frame and engine serial nr. are from a Cb550..front fork not.

Hi guys!

Last year i`ve found a Honda CB550 1976, i think F model, that is in really bad condition, i mean:
- just half of the engine
- no carbs
- wrong front fork
- rust
- and others...a real nightmare!!!

Now the good thing:
- i paid only 80 dollars
- she has a clean title..evrything is ok regarding the papaerwork..now that is something !

Initialy i planned to use it likje a spare parts for my other Cb550, but i think that this bike deserves a second chance to life..so i want to repair it! Not rebuild as original..just to make it work again, maybe as an custom project for this winter...

So, i need your help in order the find the parts i need:
- complet engine!
- set of carbs
- and others...

The big problem is that i am from Romania and is hard to ship cheap. But i have many friends that are working in UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and other countrys that could help me with the shiping.

All i need is to find these parts and a trusty seller!

this is the pacient...

Mihai, when you say damaged did you get the light coming up after oil heating up or was is some other symptoms. I have checked ebay and found genuine honda switch but it says superseeding the #300.... original

The actual ref starting with 300 are actually rather expensive:(

Which model did you choose?

Thanks

My oil switch was loosing oil...a lot!!!
I found some oil near my bike and when i took of the sprocket cover it drained about 2-300ml of oil!!!

The porblem was that the sealing from the top was damaged and all the oil was comming out from there.

I don`t know the model but in the service there was a Honda CBR929 with the engine off and we tried the oil switch from the CBR and it was perfect!!!
I still got the CBR oil switch on my CB550k.

It s like this one:

I found a new oil but i never tried it: Fuchs Silkolene.
They got also a classic line for vintage bikes called Silkolube 20W50. http://www.fuchslubricants.com/silkolube-20w-50

What do you think about it? Anyone used it?

Now i am using Motul mineral 20W50 with some  ZDDP aditive.
The is also from Motul the Classic Car linehttp://motul.speclube.com/products/all-products/classic-oil-20w50-2l/.

I had almost the same problem. Turn out there was air leak between carbs and admission. Also, i had problems with my points.
After new o-ring for the admissions, timing and tappets tune up all is good!

Also check for the following:
- good battery
- problems with the fuel line
- good sparks and spark plug
- good air filter
- carb sync

I am 48 in Euro size, but the jacket doesnt seem like a tent on me. Its big, but not so big. I think size 54 on the jacket is also in Euro size.

Hi guys!
I hope you can help me to find an answer to my question :)
When i bought my bike (cb550-78) from the PO, who was a really old guy he gave me an old leather jacket the he said he`s got it a long time ago from a friend of his an so on...
The jacket does not have the manufacter or other signs except 2 badges with Honda, a small tag with Made in Englad and that it! The zipper are YKK, big ones, made from plastic.
Can you tell me what jacket is it? Have you seen another like it?

Some pictures with it:

In other words get your ready rubs out ;)
Cheers

Mihai, first you will need a fork that has the pivot arm mounting points on it ( i can not remember what type of forks you have ?)
You will need a second disc, a pivot arm, caliper, double banjo bolt, 6 longer bolts that hold the disc on, a brake line, a larger master cylinder and you must convert the speedo drive plate. I think that is it.

Got it!
I dont now what type is my fork. Its a CB550k 1978 US model.

This is the fork:
