Announcements / Donate button now back
« on: April 19, 2022, 02:49:31 PM »
A bit of a faff (technical term) after the server rebuild but the Donations page is back.

Some may notice that it has changed a bit.

The original Donate button was part of a software suite called "Treasury" which allowed donations via PayPal and logged them (and displayed stats). This software is no longer supported by its authors and was a victim of the server change. It won't work on the new version of PHP and there's nobody to update it.

So I have built my own Donate page on the info.sohc.co.uk site and linked it to PayPal in the same way.

Site Feedback / FAQ / How to... / Donations broken
« on: April 13, 2022, 12:19:13 PM »
It seems that the "SMF Treasury" plugin has been abandoned by the authors. It worked but was unsupported.

My server change and associated PHP update has broken it with no recourse so I will have to go and find an alternative...

Member 4 Sales / Downsizing... CB500K0 US Import by JamesH for sale

Having spent the last 2 years fighting cancer (declared clear last month), I have re-evaluated my biking needs.
I've sold my 2020 Tiger 900 GT Pro for a much smaller Tiger Sport 660.

I fancy a CB175 K5 (like the one I had in 1976) or a CB125S (like the one I had in 1974)

James found this bike for me in 2018. It's an early (April 1971) J-plate with square cranckcases. VIN 3240 in Gold.

There's an enormous list of work that was carried out which I will add to the end of this post, but in summary:
  • Engine service
  • Loads of NOS chassis parts
  • Paint by Menno
  • Carbs by Gerben
  • Clocks by Peter Horton

Bad bit: It leaks oil from the sump pan and the engine smokes through the breathers.

Looking for £6k from an SOHC member which is what I paid. If not, it'll go online for £7.5k

James did all of the following except for the clocks which I organised with Peter.

New timing points chrome cover (Honda)
NOS Honda alternator cover
NOS Honda alternator cover logo plate & retaining clips

Misc / Open / Anyone use a front wheel chock?
« on: March 02, 2022, 01:27:58 PM »
My new bike (ahem…) doesn’t have a centre stand so am considering one of those roll-on front wheel chocks for storage in my garage. Sidestand leaning takes up too much room.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I’d like to fix it permanently to the concrete floor.

Announcements / Software Update SMF 2.0.19
« on: February 19, 2022, 12:12:59 PM »
Just a bug-fix update:

  • Ensures compatibility with PHP 8.1 MySQLi error mode.
  • Fixes a bug where members could not download their basic profile data if RSS feeds were disabled.
  • Fixes a bug where double encoded entities could appear in RSS feeds and SSI functions
  • Fixes bugs related to birthdates in member profiles.
  • Improves protection against race conditions when saving Settings.php
  • Avoids an issue with certain versions of Chrome and Edge where viewing one page of a multi-page topic could cause unread posts on the next page to be incorrectly marked as read.
  • Security improvements.

Misc / Open / Garrard SP25 mklll Anyone?
« on: February 13, 2022, 08:55:37 AM »
Are there any vintage hifi buffs on here?

I’m looking for the above in order to relive my teens (and play the boxes of records I’ve just inherited from my Mum’s attic).

Can’t find any forums like this.

Ultimately I’d like to install an amp (into the plinth) so that I can hook up a laptop and save the audio files to play on my home system (all Sonos I’m afraid…)

If anyone is interested I will pass on his contact details.

The guys in North America do this every year. The winner of each month’s “Bike of the Month” competition goes into the final.

Some nice bikes here.

Sorry about this everyone.

I upgraded the server to PHP8.0 and didn't notice that the Tapatalk plugin required an update to work with this...

Sorry for that. I'm usually very careful about who I approve but failed to notice the Czech IP address on this one. Everyone uses gmail nowadays...

My only excuse for leaving it for so long is that I was in the hot tub :)

Has anyone else noticed this? It fails to load or just gives me a white screen.

It didn’t do this before the update.

Site Feedback / FAQ / How to... / Do we need a "Twins" board?
« on: April 09, 2021, 08:22:40 AM »
We have quite a few members owning and restoring 250/350 twins who are relegated to the "Other Bikes" board.

Seeing as we have a special place for 450DOHC/Bomber bikes, how about a board for the twins?
