« on: July 15, 2014, 12:13:04 AM »
Hi,

Anyone used these people for chroming.

A fellow CB250K0 restorer has used them and gave a good report.

CB750 / CB750K2 UK Review
« on: June 30, 2014, 08:50:46 AM »
Jamesh and UK Pete commented recently on the difference in Riding K1/K0 vs the K2 and later.

Here is my scan of the first MCM review of the CB750K2 (UK model as we never got K3,K4 & K5 here) and their findings.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pgq3hx4ecczxoql/AAAdhC9BX8lZTz77hkpHxkBda

I think I have already posted the Dropbox scans of the original CB750K0 MCM review in 1970 but if you can't find it I will post again.

Sorry about the file sizes, it's just if I try scanning at lower resolution, it's harder to read

Enjoy !

"I know we frequently get asked as to when will we have CB750K2 muffler sets available and the answer is always next month. Here are the prototypes that are being worked on, proof that we will have them, hopefully soonish".

Misc / Open / Off Topic ... Grinder Gearbox Grease
« on: June 24, 2014, 10:58:56 AM »
Loads of my stuff was trashed in the floods in Dec 2013 (1.2m of river water in the workshop ! plus fish!)  but I was determined to recover my trusty Makita mini grinder and hammer drill as they are great bits of kit. Rebuilt them with new bearings etc but I can't find the right grease to repack the gearboxes!

Anyone any ideas on what to use. The proper stuff is 'Makita grease SG. No.0' but I can't find it in the UK. I tried high temp grease but it just got flung off. The proper stuff is really 'sticky' stuff.

Misc / Open / Questions for DSS
« on: June 10, 2014, 07:28:02 AM »
Hi,

I am putting together a list of questions to ask David Silver directly (he agreed to do this after becoming a member on here, at my request).

So far:
    1) Ash  -- Do you intend to stock more Yamiya Stuff. ( Seat components, small items like decals etc).
    2) James --- Availability of repro. HM341 exhausts
    3) UkPete --- (& Ash)  Issues on the repro CB750K0/K1 fork stanchions he sells.

NO  ::)  ... I wont ask him to reduce his prices or argue about postage.

have already asked him about who he uses for re-chroming. He has had lots of hassles with the people he has used for his 400/4 resto programme. He also told me that there is legislation coming in in about two years to ban the process.

    Cheers ...AshD

CB750 / Spoke Finish on 750K0
« on: June 05, 2014, 07:11:32 AM »
In this Vic World (CB750 'Sandcast' resto Guru in the US) article  linked below, it is stated that he nickel plates the wheel spokes. I can't believe he would deviate from original spec. Or was it just a misprint? What was the factory finish? I have a really nice condition '69 CL350 front wheel with original finish and the spoke finish looks more like nickel than BZP.

Misc / Open / Anyone also own a Classic Car too?
« on: May 20, 2014, 07:43:03 AM »
My resto's are always severely hampered by lack of space due to the MG Midget (crabby rubber bumper one) which has languished in my garage for 20 years. I bought it in 1986 after I finished my 400/4 resto, to 'teach myself' to MIG weld. Certainly got lots of practice on it !!  Bl**dy thing attracts the field mice from the farm opposite too !

Anyone else a 'classic' car owner too?

CB350/400 / Project Dole Racer CB400/4
« on: May 12, 2014, 09:17:10 AM »
Re: The forthcoming 400/4 restoration feature in 'Classic Bike' mag. Anyone remember 'Project Dole Racer' in a magazine in the late 1980's,  as I remember?  It was painted white and made to look like a 'Mocheck Harrier'. Sadly I saw some parts from it on Ebay years ago so it's  probably scrapped now.
The donor bike was from a breakers in Holbeach (near to EMAP I think). The same magazine also featured a character 'Eric Trode' from the 'Land of the Rising Yen'. From memory, they hand painted the frame with Hammerite smooth and then sprayed it with the rattle can version to get rid of the brush marks. It also featured 'Tina Tailpipe' from memory.

Sadly my copies of the magazines are long gone.
