CB500/550 / 550 K3 520 chain ?
« on: October 09, 2022, 07:27:15 AM »
Hi to all members,

Long time since I've been on the forum, lots of other bikes and mundane things to sort out !

Does anyone know of any sprockets that are a straight fit on the 550 but are for 520 chain size ? I am about to replace chain and sprockets on mine and would like the smaller (lighter and generally cheaper to purchase) 520 chain,

If there's no straight fit sprockets in 520 size I'll stick with 530 even though it's bigger and heavier than a bike of this power needs

Any help much appreciated,

Regards to all
Ozzy

Interchangeability / 750 carbs on 550 K3 ?
« on: June 21, 2020, 10:43:27 AM »
It's a question rather than an answer,

Has anyone done it ? I am looking for alternatives to the horrible PD carbs on my K3 550, I have read somewhere that the 750 carbs are a good upgrade, one because they work better and as my bike is 605cc with a 650 cam it will benefit from the bigger carbs (+2mm ?),

Advice on the possibility, any pitfalls and the best type of carbs to look for is appreciated,

Thanks

CB500/550 / Valve stem seals
« on: May 23, 2020, 08:45:15 AM »
Apologies as it's probably been covered a hundred times but I want a recommendation for valve stem seals, I have a big bore kit to fit to my K3 550 and I am taking out the valves so need some stem seals, I want decent quality ones so that they are not leaking a few hours later, any advice on which ones to buy and where as I have read that some of the cheapest ones are suspect quality ?

M and P do some at a good price but there's no brand

Thanks in advance

Do you ever end up spitting feathers while working on the bikes ? It doesn't happen often, I am usually in my little corner of heaven in the garage working on the bikes with a pot o tea and classic rock on the radio but spending the morning stripping the 550 forks nearly drove me over the edge ! All due to the po loctiting the damper rod bolt in ! I've seen some stuff but that's a new one  !

CB500/550 / CB550K3 carb needles ???
« on: April 08, 2020, 09:36:49 AM »
HI,

I have a CB550K3 and it has never run well since the first day of ownership, it has always run very poor at low throttle openings so I have removed the bank of carbs to overhaul them,

On strip down I have found that the needles fitted in the carbs are 4mm shorter than the new ones provided in the service kits, this could explain the poor running at low throttle openings (some of the stuff that I have found engineering wise on the bike means anything is possible), I have also found blocked airways that could explain the poor running,

The carbs are the Keihin PD46A suffix PJ t

does anyone know which are the correct needles as it is not 100% certain by looking and measuring which ones it should be,

Any info / help much appreciated.

New Member Introductions / Not so new member

HI All,

Well I am not exactly a new member but I have not introduced myself and have not been using the forum so it's about time I did !

My username is Ozzysbikes, comes from one of my many adolescent nick names because my family name is Austin and I have been motorcycle crazy since owning and repairing bikes since I was eight years old (more than fifty years) and I have never been more than a couple of months without at least one bike to this day,

I have a Honda CB550 K3, Honda NS400R, Kawasaki ZX6R track bike, Yamaha 350 YPVS F2, Yamaha RD350 A, and a Yamaha Majesty TY200 trials bike.

So hello and regards to all.
