That is amazing, Carol Nash wanted £167, thanks very much.

Is that with MC club membership?

CB500/550 / Insurance Value
« on: June 13, 2022, 02:59:35 PM »
I am just renewing my insurance and was surprised how much my premium had gone up and so I am in the process of looking for other quotes.

I haven't thought about or changed my bikes value for many years.  What do we think is a reasonable amount to put for a scruffy, perfectly running and well maintained CB500/4 considering what it would cost to replace if someone stole it?

My CB250K had phosphor bronze bushes put in as a modification.  I replaced them in 1985 with standard ones as they had worn out.  I don't know how long they had been in there as they had been done by the previous owner but they looked like a good bit of work.  I still have them somewhere, will try to dig them out.

That what Graham has fitted to his 550/4 Mongrel, sounds great.

Excellent, many thanks everyone, being stainless should last a long time.  I shall place an order.

are you sure the movement is coming from the bearing itself?  The swing arm on these bikes does flex a little as the MOT man used to show me.

Hello everybody.

Well. it's lasted a good few years but finally my old Laser pipe has rusted so badley there is now a hole.  Does anyone have a similar pipe lying around in their workshop that they would like to sell?  Also, I noticed Nurse Julie, you had a similar stainless version on one of your bikes.  Where did you get it from?

Excellent as ever Bryan, thanks very much.

Just ordered some 5.5mm ID claims to be E10 safe so fingers crossed.

I lost the petrol tank to ethanol, developed a hole near the badge

I'll try to look out for it although I have to go a long way to get to a station so usually have to get whatever they have.

CB500/550 / Ethanol?
« on: September 02, 2021, 10:13:47 AM »
500/4.

Upon turning on the fuel tap yesterday, I found fuel leaking from one of the pipes from the fuel tap.

Looking at the pipe it seems to be very perished which I was not expecting as I had replaced with new ones only last year.

I suspect ethanol might be the problem and wondered if anyone here knows what type of pipe one should use nowadays with the new fuel and if anyone has a recommended supplier of such.

I would agree with that, take it to someone who knows what they are doing.  I was told by Steve at Piston Broke in Bristol that Honda tolerences were really tight and he correctly rebored my 500/4, very close indeed.  He warned me I would have to run in very carefully but that there is no point in taking out more metal than is needed and that it would last longer as a result.  I followed his instructions and 26 years later it is still going strong.

If the pitting is really deep there are other pistons that fit CB350k such as Kawasaki GPZ750 (66mm).  Same crown and gudgeon pin size and valve cutaways fit perfectly.
