Title: Major problem fitting exhausts.
Post by: Phil9886 on July 14, 2020, 01:48:22 PM
So - feeling quite depressed now. I couldnt seem to make the new exhaust system for the K6 line up with the rear mounting point once the end was in the cylinder head.  Have just checked the part numbers and two of the pipes supplied have different part numbers to the K6 drawing / parts list (the two without the decal that screws on). Checking part numbers the system I have is for a pre-K6 model. But the question is - is a K6 exhaust system different in terms of dimensions to a pre-K6 version. Or should the exhaust systems be interchangeable?  The photo shows the part numbers I have.

Also, the main supporting bolt at the rear is too large a diameter to fit through the rear footrest brackets. However I bought the footrest brackets new from the K6 page of CMSNL - so this is all getting very strange.

Hopefully I'm doing something stupid. That wouldn't be the first time. But has anyone got any ideas?

All the 341 exhaust systems are for a K2-K6 and if you can't get the foot rest bolt into the foot rest hanger, it may be where you have had the frame powder coated and the hole is too small.
No. 2 pipe, goes inside of the side stand and all should fit.
Edit..... Maybe you have been supplied the incorrect brackets as the K6 brackets have been no longer available for a long time now, did they have 341 middle part number🤔🤔🤔

Thanks for the quick answer. I've attached a photo of the problem.  Believe me there is no way the rear mounting point is going to line up. I started this project about 10 years ago and memory is fading now. But I do remember getting a new cylinder head (and having it blasted and painted) as fins were broken on the original. Now I'm wondering if I ended up with a cylinder head from a K7? Could that be the problem? If it is - it's out with the engine again and I'll be looking for a new cylinder head.

Regarding the rear footpeg - I can just drill that out to the larger diameter to fit the supporting bolt so a relatively easy fix. But a new cylinder head! Damn!!!

Yep, feed it in from underneath and pull back into position.

The cylinder head is just fine, it's just the pipe you have in the wrong position.

Good, I'm pleased you sorted it out. You aren't the first and you for sure won't t be the last to not be able to see the wood for the trees.

We've all been there over one issue or another over the years, whether classic bikes or cars - glad it's all come to together now and goes to show the power of this forum.

Yep. It really did show the power of the forum. Hope I can help someone out one day. One side done and the other to go. It's actually a work of art by Honda.

Thanks. Yes - have remembered those but need to drill / ream the hole in the footrest bracket out to 14mm. My brackets have a smaller (10mm?) hole but appear to be identical in every other way to the originals.

I suspect your brackets are actually from a 550 which used a 10mm diameter mounting bolt. Other than the hole, they appear the same as the 750K6 ones.
