CB500/550 / Re: CB550 Oil Filter Bolt Removal
« Last post by Johnwebley on Today at 08:24:45 AM »
Im planning to lift the 550 engine out of the frame at the weekend and intended to take off the Oil Filter housing to make removal from the frame easier. The bolt on the oil filter housing looks horrendous, no flats left and I doubt a smaller socket tapped onto it would grip. I can probably get my large Molegrips on it but before I go down that route are there any tips for tackling this? I have given it a good squirt of WD and left it to soak in. Thanks
What a beaut!

Good luck

Why not indicate which you bought? We're in the dark.

Hello,
I bought a pair of coils from EBay for £37! They’re bound not to work!
I’ve just fitted them. They’re working fine so far after an ‘extensive’ 25 mile test.
The only problem is (as someone else here stated) the mounting holes are 90mm apart and the  standard fitting on my 550k3 is 100mm apart so you need to make up two little steel brackets. Measurements, 11mm wide, 28mm long with two 6.5mm holes with centres 10mm apart and 9mm from each end. Also as they have male spade connectors you have to make up 4 wires (2x female spade to male bullet black with white stripe and 2x female spade to female bullet one blue and one yellow). They need to be about 250mm long. I don’t think the coil connections are polarised so I just wired them the same way as each other.  I suppose we’ll see how long they last.
I was also quite pleased I did this as the yellow wire connection just fell apart and was due to fail. Good luck with it.

That number plate looks huge, it's almost covering the indicators. I think they may have ordered the wrong size there. The drag from that sail will probably stop him cracking 50 mph.

Thanks David,
Thanks I’ll check that against the CMSNL diagrams when I have it apart.

I always keep some cash on me so that I can pay for items if the card system or bank computers go tits up - which seems to happen far too often. Call me old school if you want, never been caught unable to pay yet.
Of course,  if the shop tills stop working they won't even take cash!

Might be the  bidders saw it in the flesh and the photos were very flattering.
Auction prices are sometimes about extremes in either direction rather than true value especially as there was no reserve set and the family just wanted to move it on quickly.

This 550 only fetched £1000 - I'ne no idea if this was cheap or is that all they fetch unrestored.

If you need one, I’ve got one in a re-built state with new piston and some paint if you need one mate

I'm wondering if there might just be enough clearance as the reservoir tapers off doesn't it?  Are they 1/2" Roo

Do you want me to bob them over to you Dom, then you can shuffle them about to see? Don’t mind mate. CBR’s have clip ons and they fit a treat so I think it’ll fit ok but I don’t mind sending some over to you mate………

How many have you got😄  one good one will do!  Have they got brake switches, it would be good to do away with the connector on the lower triple and run a continuous line.  I'll pm you mate.

That on the face of it looks a good buy at that price, the engine  looked as though it has not been painted so let the bike down I thought.

I expected it to reach £4k.
I expected it to reach £5,000. What went wrong for the seller, is the current economic climate creating a buyers market or did I simply pay far too much for a bike that wasn't as good six years ago? ::)  Could the demand for cash have effected things given that the powers that be seem to be making cash a suspicious entity?
