Hi all, just another little update on what is going on in here - not much to be honest.
Indicator from Chris on the bike, replaced one that was squashed at the back.
I have changed exhaust studs around as some were damaged, I got a set of ebay that are m8 into m6. As some threads were damaged in the cylinders, I have re-threaded them into m8 and left the m6 on the outside. No pics of that operation but  :(
And just yesterday fitted new drive as the old one was well overdue. I went for a gold DID 530vx and JT sprockets.

Issues to be looked at now are : there is a rattle from inside the clutch cover, if You remove the oil stick You can here it very clearly - sounds like the was a loose nut flying around ?? ( there is not )
Next one but  think not as serious ( ? ) is back fire on cylinder 1 or 1 and 2. When test riding if You go into higher revs and then let go it would back fire  :(
Any ideas ??

Hi there, I bought DID chain and JT sprockets for my Nighthawk too. Now waiting for the tool that Mick has advised. I wonder if its really a Sealey tool, seems very cheap. I went and asked at my local tools shop that sells Sealey and they sell them at £40, he even told me that they pay £28 for them. Anyway, we shall see when it comes 😉

Hi there, You can look up on flebay for bolt removing kit. They are not all that expensive and You have a good chance You will need to use it few more times in the future 😉

Just a quick question here gents, I need the indicator for the rear of the bike, possibly also one for the front, anyone here that maybe have some in the boxes of spares ?
They are Stanley 045-6779 indicators.
If You have them and wouldn't mind selling let me know please  :)
Thanks

Thanks for the good word Mark, I do enjoy working on the bike big time, I only wish I had a wee secret room with all the parts that I need  :)
As to working on them being almost as good as riding them, well, ALMOST makes a lot of difference  ;)

Hi Tosh, what year exactly is Your bike or what model of carbs do You have in there ?
I have a Haynes book for my wee girl and yes it says to set the pilot screws at 1.5 for the start and then work on them, but then when I go to the last pages it gives separate settings for different models ( US, UK ) and years. There is quite a big difference between them as its 1.5 turn out for one and 2.5 turn out for the other.
Good luck with it anyway  ;)

Well, it has been a while... Loads of work at home ( painting & decorating ) and low on funds so work is progressing very slowly.
Starter clutch repair kit has arrived, and so did new carb boots. I had the clutch cover and the oil pan removed, took the starter clutch out and fixed it. There was a lot of little red silicon bits in the oil pan and effectively blocking the small mesh filter thing on the oil pump intake ( whatever the name for that is ) I guess whoever was doing some work on the engine before was using a lot of silicon wherever he could, instead of buying seals  :-\ Anyway, that's all cleaned, checked the oil filter, looks new ( the previous owner told me it was replaced, but judging on everything else that was done to the poor girl, wouldn't thrust him ). I did fit the new carb boots, and having the carbs out again I have changed the pilot screws settings, as previously I had them at 1 and 1/8 turn out as per Haynes manual. Later I looked at the back pages where it gives specific settings for different years and UK and US models, just to find out the on my model it should be 2 and 1/4 turn out  :o So that's the way they are now. I bought new 10w40 oil, some cheap brand as it is only there for the  trial and error work on the engine, and it will be most definitely drained again at some stage.
Took her out and started up, I think she isn't working to bad  ??? ( It obviously had to start raining )
Any how, here is a very short video of getting her started ( she was already worm at this stage )
