Title: Bomber fork leg butchery.
Post by: AshimotoK0 on April 04, 2020, 07:43:50 AM
I had to take drastic action yesterday on a Bomber fork leg. The stanchion rotated freely but could not be removed from the alloy bottom despite lots of heat and force. The alloy bottom had a broken off mudguard mount so I decided to chop off the bottom of it, to gain access the piston retaining circlip. Transpired that the fork piston was corroded to the inside wall of the alloy fork tube. Luckily the stanchion survived unscathed in the chromed area and I have two spare sets of bottom alloy sliders so should be OK for parts to make a decent set of forks up.

So .. if you are reading this Roy...you are not alone in having 'bomber grief'  :)

Having a break from the bomber for a while Ash. Chroming, bzp, polishing, painting, powder coating all out being done. Wheels are built and finished so for now there's no bomber related things to do.

Back to the Suzuki GS1000 as the tank is finally back from the painters yet again. Hope it holds petrol this time.

I may even find time whilst sitting at home to update the bomber build thread. Aren't lockdowns boring.
