Here are some early 70's memories, you were probably there Ralph.
Wonder if this was when you got P****d with him, back before the Selfi thing.
Those were the days, me looking "cool" on the 90s
-
Nice pics Rich.Yeah that was about the time. The show in particular was mainly Honda and for the life of me cant remember what the new model was but sheenie was lying over the seat throwing up to everyones dismay but it was early in the day not open to the public yet so did not spoil the show.Yes his sister went with Paul Smart met her too as I worked for smartie when he bought out the Chisholm Brothers Honda shop in Maidstone nice guy too but hated the yank Kenny Roberts arrogant git and big headed.
Cheers

I didn't know he bought out Chisolms, Smarti ended up on the opposite
side of the road ,didn't he?
-
No Rich definatly Chisholms worked for him for 2 years and left because he pestered me to lend him my 750 to race.As you go up knightrider street it was on the right just b4 the chinky and workshop entrance was next to the chinky up an alley way and to get up it you had to turn in your mirrors.

Am I right in remembering there was a mechanic at Paul Smarts in Paddock Wood called Lackie, or something like that, would have been early / mid 80's. He went to work for a bike shop in Hawkhurst I think
-
Julie
Yeah they did move there but I was not part of it then. Then they got bought out by the crowd who moved in at knightrider street on the left side further up opposite the old Redhill motors site cant remember their name at the mo.

I love the ways these threads wander.
Now you have mentioned Redhill Motors. They were the dealer in Brighton when I lived there in 76-79. Are they still around? We were in there two or three times a week and they gave us discount for the Uni bike club (did I mention that I was the President from 77-79?).
They always said that we looked different with helmets on so we had a bunch of Bike Club ID cards with us wearing helmets (and probably B&HA football scarves). I'll see if I can dig one out and post it on here.
Maybe sort out the mugshots thread too
-
Sorry (?) to bring the thread back to its origination:
I was at Goodwood for his final race in 2002. Despite being very sick, he and Wayne Gardner had a ding dong battle, way ahead of everyone else in the race. It was like he and Roberts all over again, hand gestures, the works. Barry came a very close second in what subsequently became the Barry Sheene Memorial Race that Gardner won in its first year, 2003.

If my info is right yes there were 2 shops when the original man was in charge Brighton and Maidstone. Then the son in law took over and sadly Brighton went first then The other.
Damn shame but thats the way some go.Drew thats fine mate did not know about that as I was out of the UK in those days.
