To check the coils you need to disconnect them then take a primary and a secondary reading with an ohm meter I don't know the exact figures but the primary which is taken between the 2 thin leads should be about 4-7 ohms and the secondary taken between the 2 ht leads should be somewhere between about 25000 to 35000 ohms if you check both of them they should be roughly the same , usulay if the coil is knackered you will have an open circuit between one of them.

I like a cone or as we call it in Glasgow a pokey hat but if I'm not on driving duties on the way home I may just take a supply of beer with me.

I will be getting my bikes MOTed even though I have rebuilt my bikes myself and have been building bikes for nearly 40 years I would never take a bike out unless it was completely roadworthy, but how many that are not roadworthy are going to be involved in accidents and gurinteed insurance companies will use that as an excuse to not pay out ,could you imagine been involved in an accident where someone was seriously hurt or worse and there was a seven figure claim against an insurance company, they ask did you have an MOT and never mind how many years you have owned been rebuilding working on bikes are you qualified to say that the bike was safe they will use anything so be warned.

This is a question that is asked often on the various classic bike forums that I am a member of. Everyone is on about the prices ect, just one question has anyone ever made a claim on any of these different classic policies, I have found that with cars you may get cheap policies but some of them are very reluctant to pay out and will do anything to avoid it, it would be beneficial for everyone to be recommended a company that has gave good service after a claim has been made. Has anyone got any good or bad stories about making a claim on a classic bike.

Would I be right in saying that the oring section would just be slightly thicker than the gasket so I would imagine that it would be a pretty thin oring and not one of these that you get in the generic oring kits also I think it would be nitrile as there is a fair bit of heat.

Just one thing I don't really need that much for any of my bikes nor does my friend we were just going for a look around so would it be safe to say that it would be quieter on the Sunday morning, I know the days of finding the elusive bargain are long gone thanks to eBay and yes if your wanting cheap market tools or cheap foreign market jackets etc that seems to be the majority of what is for sale at these events, I would like to meet up with some of the Kawasaki triple boys and the Gt as well as I have been involved with them over the years, is it worth bringing any spares to sell as I have a massive amount of Suzuki GT parts do any of the people at stalls buy?

I think your right with the colourtune the last time I used one was on my 1976 BMW 316 cause it was running to rich I think that's what it was designed for I'm no stranger to messing about with jets being a 2stroke  man.

Unfortunately unlike the old 2 strokes full of oil they rot from the inside out by the look of it.

Sounds as if it would be worth trying standard first I will give that a go. Is it worth trying a colourtune in the Hondas or Am I better just doing a plug chop.

Thanks for the info I will see if my pal is up for it it will make for a good day out as most people worked out my question was was it worthwhile and not all full of British bikes although I don't mind looking at them but would not be worth the drive if there were very little jap stuff but I so have an H1 and a Gt 750 so will be worth a go.

I am going to be overhauling and ultrasonically cleaning my carbs when I get home I have overhaul kits, I am fitting a Marshal deeptone tailpipe to a standard set of headers so I am thinking a good place to start would be with 80 main jets any thoughts on this and where abouts can you buy them in the UK.

I got them done by Sean at Agbrigg, turned them round in under 3 weeks.

Me and one of my friends are thinking of driving down on Sunday 22nd for the Stafford bike show, I read somewhere that this show is mostly for old British stuff and the more Japanese one is in Sep, is this so or is it still worth a 520 mile round trip.

I think you would be better with your first Idea, if you are using a motobatt these keep their charge very well even over the winter, you may have a problem connecting it in parallel as the voltage on the motobatt is slightly higher being a gell battery, but I think the biggest problem would be if there was a drain or short circuit on the original circuit and your backup battery was connected it would flatten that one as well defeating the purpose, another idea would be a small set of jump leads.
