Thanks everyone Got a recommendation from someone who has always used a guy in St Helens - who is a biker himself (Z900). Went yesterday and he does all kinds of engineering work - there was a guy there that had used him for years on a variety of bikes from RD's to Commando's. He wanted clearance figures specific to the kit so went on the .net forum to 'Hondaman' in USA who's used these 'Cruzimage' kits and got figures he recommended. Picking barrels up on Monday. Good price as well (I think?) - 50 squid. Des at Wilber Motors in St Helen - one man outfit. As an aside, the Hondaman piece had some great info increasing on o ring size (thickness) as a number of patterm head gaskets/big bore gaskets are slightly thicker - had a hell of a job finding the thread but well worth the effort. Thanks again for all your imputs Phil

Hi Don't know whether this info is of any use but just reading January 2014 Classic Motorcycle Mechanics (page 97) and there's an advert for Motad saying they are going to make batches of 4 -1 exhausts in stainless for various Jap fours based on the number of customer enquiries they get - don't know whether they've changed policy since you have been in touch? Thought it worth mentioning anyway. Motad number in advert is 01922 714700. Phil

Thanks Mick (from Lancaster) -They look the same - that longer lug on the back of the lower case seems to be the same as the ones I've got. I'll try to get onto photo bucket and check the forks I've got for condition. Mick (Green1) - Whats the etiquette for contact details on the forum? Can we just exchange numbers/email address? Just going out but will try to sort pics later Thanks Phil

Thanks to both Micks for the offers - its great to speak to such helpful people. I think getting the K2 forks is the better option provided my set are the right ones for the K1 and in the condition that acceptable - want to be certain what I think are K1 are K1. Have looked at reference pics and 99% certain they are K1, I cant seem to upload pics so should I email pics to you?

Thanks for all your replies - seems the key thing whatever I use is using sparingly particularly around oilways - but covering the whole surface. Sent for some blue hylamar last night after first few posts as need it for time off between Christmas. Just read a bit about Hondabond and that's silicone based too so I'll have a go with the hylamar. I never worried before but being an old git now has turned me into a worrier! My only concern is how long it takes to go off whilst I'm fitting crankcase together - never had that problem with the red hermatite. Know what you mean about the red hermatite being associated with bodges - seen some of them back in the seventies - particularly on oily British bikes! Thanks for all your help again guys. Cant see the pics for the last post - must be my settings Phil

Thanks for replies. When looking for new stantions on Dave Silver and CMS, (for K2) it lists two types - upto certain frame numbers/after certain numbers and its the same when I was looking for mudguards. So I assumed that earlier K2's had a K1 fork bottoms (like the ones I've bought to refurb - with a longer rear mudguard mounting lug). Its these two types I need to know have interchangeable internals. Thanks for the offer of forks of FI Mick but want to keep standard with chrome headlamp brackets/rubber boots/mudguards - would they fit? Thanks again Phil

Hi again guys I'm on a roll now - I bought my 1975 K2 in a load of rusty pieces and so spending a lot of time replacing with new but am finding that it was a boxs of mixed model parts. It turns out (after a rebuild!) that the forks are cb500Four - only found out when I ordered new fork tops. I've bought a set of K2 forks but they are the early type and doesn't match 1975 model year. I'm going to buy new stations anyway and if I got hold of the later model fork bottoms (might be able to get hold of some), was wondering if the internals from the early K1/K2 forks that I have would fit in the later stantions/fork bottoms? Tried to upload a few pics before and so far - but unsuccessful again - not techy enough it seems! Thanks Phil

Hi Guys Have just got all the bits for my xmas holiday engine build - verrrrrry expensive! Got the bigbore 836 kit from cruzimage Japan on ebay having done a bit of research on the SOHC forums - service was first class and arrived in a week! New big ends, mains, bigbore kit, camchain, primary chain and all tensioners. Its a few years since I've rebuilt an engine - CB1100RB and Phil Read Rep - so reasonably confident except it was about 20 years ago and was wondering what the current thoughts are on what jointing compound to use for upper/lower crankcases? Also, can anyone recommend a company local to Wigan, Lancashire that can do the rebore for the bigbore kit and cost. I'm not too bothered about having it done quickly provided I get the bottom end completely built up over the xmas break, I'll be pleased. Any help appreciated. Thanks Phil

Thanks everyone, the standard settings suggestion makes perfect sense when broken down to basics! And easiest too! I am planning ahead because although I've bought the big bore kit, am now saving for mains/big ends/primary chain/etc. Will probably be Feb/March before I get to putting motor together - its only a newly painted and polished engine shell without bits in at moment. Any other weak points to check for while I'm ordering engine bits - ie gearbox bearing/etc Thanks again for your help Phil
