Title: Float valve refurb

After scratching my head for a bit over how to avoid spending a fortune on new OE carburettor float valve sets, I took a chance and got the dremel on the job !
The needle part of the valve fits neatly in the dremel collet chuck as the 4 corners slip into the 4 collet gaps. The needle then runs true. I set the dremel speed on its lowest setting (still fast though) and used 1200 wet or dry paper to gently polish out the slight ridge that had been worn into the cone which I suspected was causing the weaping valves. Then used some brasso on a clean cloth to restore the finish, again using low revs. Finally some brasso on a cotton bud to gently polish the brass valve seatings.
Quick polish of the four float tabs and re-assembled each carb. No leaks so far.

similar to how i have always done them, i put a small hole in a piece of stiff card and put a blob of solvol on that, then i put the valve needle in a biro tube and twist the tip to and fro in the the hole until polished up, the seat i use a cocktail stick solvol and twist the same way on the seat seldom have i had a failure using this method.

Whatever does the job I guess. I may have used something similar last time round .... it was a few years ago ?!

I will stick to the 98 RON ethanol-free petrol too.
Now she is starting without too much fuss.

Just need an MoT, then I can get it "taxed" as a Historic vehicle for the first time !

Quick one, this problem you are explaining, does it cause theleak via overflow ?

No it cures the leak through the overflow.
