Hi, I have just joined the club, I have an aluminium petrol tank made for a Honda CB 750, I bought it about 20 years ago second hand, it looks different to the Seeley & Britain tanks, can anybody tell me anything about it? I have added a picture today 27/01/15 Bare aluminium F1 Café racer.

Blimey Nigel, where dya park that? In the sea. ;D ;D
-
It was buried at the back of my workshop for about 5 years, nothing a good clean and some petrol won't sort out!
-
Hi,
A bit past autosol then ;D ;D ;D
-
I will get a new battery and fire it up, it always starts even when left over a year, time to strip it and get riding again, anyone know where I can get the wheels respoked and rims chromed...

Cheaper to buy new rims and where are you located ?
-
New rims then, I'm in Heathfield, East Sussex
-
Any ideas on the petrol tank origin?
-
Never seen one like that before. Could be a one off.
-
I filled it up to the top once, pulled out the garage and the bike was so top heavy it fell over, never again its a massive tank

Are you the Nigrl that does the plating and polishing, up behind Groombridges ?

Well, save's me a load of hassle if it stops you from tinkering ;D ;D ;D

It's not me tinkering you need to worry about Trig, it's when I've put it all back together and got loads of bits left over, that when you need to start panicking ::) ::) ::)

You did not work for British Rail in the past. Took on a British Rail engineer some years ago. He built a engine and said, "look what i have saved". Looking at a load of parts still on the bench. He only lasted the day.

I'm new here too and for some reason I can't see any picture of the tank. Am I doing something wrong?

Whats the external oil feed for (if that's what it is) on the right of the bike?
Cheers Roy

Careful what you say there Graham,.. they can't all be like that. A British Rail Engineer restored one of the 1st batch of UK Jan '70 CB750K0's and it has got to be one of the best restorations around !

Any ideas on the oil feed, curiosity has got me now. You can just see it on the right hand oil gallery blanking plug?
-
Hi nosey Julie, no I'm not the chroming man behind Groombridge's, I'm a sandblaster, any idea where my petrol tank comes from... have you ever heard of a Honda 750 F1 Sabre, just spotted it scribed into the underneath of the tank!
-
The Sabre was a VF750

The tank may of been a 1 off, the external oil feed was my work, after knocking out 3 camshafts in 7000 miles, the feed is taken from the oil gallery that splits the pressure between the top & bottom end, banjo bolt with a flow adjuster, that splits into 2 then 4 pipes, drill and tap into rocker cover, brazed copper pipe then feeds oil directly onto the 4 upper cam carriers, never had a cam go since, its also got an American performance parts big bore kit on it, likes being the other side of the red line
-
If you Google "Honda Sabre Racer" you can see some people have cafe'd the VF750 - maybe this was one of theirs?
-
Looks quite possible Steve, thanks for your help and what a brilliant forum, I take it David Silver is my best bet to get spares...

Thanks Jamesh, time to spend some of my hard earnt money

Not sure if it the angle of the picture but it looks very near a Laverda tank. Is the fuel cap a screw type ?
-
Its a push button cap, Honda 750 Sabre inscribed underneath?
-
Honda 750 F1 Sabre inscribed underneath, its huge!
