The parts list shows item 50 part 14501-323-000 Clip DS £9.48 each.
Mine look okay but is it something that must be replaced due to age - pricey for what they are?

Just my opinion, but put it to perspective. If the part fails, how expensive would it be to remove and strip the engine, new gaskets, Honda bond, exhaust gaskets etc, plus putting right any damage caused by such a failure. So is that part that expensive really? What price peace of mind? Ultimately your bike, your choice, but could you ever feel confident riding it as the manufacturer designed and intended (high revs) having that nagging doubt in the back of your thoughts?

Perfect answer to burrow into my "what if" brain like an ear worm - I guess I knew the right thing to do all along!

Ive just bought 2 Ted, Mr silvers had £500 off me this week, I recon the overall cost will be £1000 for my engine build. I suppose that’s what you get when buying bikes that come in a box
I’ve been pricing a few more bits up today. Generator cover 11632333010 £82.80. The best one has to be the bolt that goes above the cam chain adjuster bolt, no 177, 25911500000 £40. Im going to make 1 tomorrow out of stainless

I watched a YouTube vid of a guy rebuilding a Triumph T120 engine. When it came to placing the new pistons on the con rods he said he doesn't renew the piston circlips unless they show deformation and reuses the old ones. Why!!! Why would you reuse a critical part that costs pennies to replace and risk it failing taking a rebuilt engine with it! And how can you tell if a wire circlip is reusable, these clips will loose their ability to spring into shape once they have taken on a 'set' over a period of time.
It might cost a few extra quid Ted but as Hairy points out, it's piece of mind knowing you can rev the engine without the worry of it going bang!
