Hi Eddie and welcome. Which F1 are you building, 400, 550 or 750?

Hi and welcome. Be aware that the K7 has awful carbs that block up for fun if not used almost daily, and a 17 inch rear wheel which can limit rear tyre choices. The K6 is probably a better bet as regards cosmetic parts and a lot of cycle parts being interchangeable with earlier models, and sharing common exhausts etc with earlier K2 onwards pipes. K7 and K8 have later seamless pipes that are very hard to find, and very pricey. But ultimately the decision is yours.

Tricks & Tips / Re: Exhaust clamp modifications

I thought the fins were to aid heat loss from the exhuast or have they become just cosmetic?
Modern bikes tend to be water cooled, old stuff like these really need all the cooling aids it can get, especially if used hard.

I'm sure it will be far easier now than after a catastrophic self destruct on the road!

Just my opinion, but put it to perspective. If the part fails, how expensive would it be to remove and strip the engine, new gaskets, Honda bond, exhaust gaskets etc, plus putting right any damage caused by such a failure. So is that part that expensive really? What price peace of mind? Ultimately your bike, your choice, but could you ever feel confident riding it as the manufacturer designed and intended (high revs) having that nagging doubt in the back of your thoughts?

I assume the kill switch is in the "Run" position? (Certainly wouldn't be the first on that one!)

No, they are just cheap stainless bolts readily available on eBay. At least go to Middletons website and buy some polished ones.

My crancase set from them were polished. Then again I guess there is polished and dazling !

It appears the bolts are also not fully threaded hopefully  the right length for the job.
Using the correct terminology, a bolt has an unthreaded portion, if it is threaded it's full length it is a setscrew

I'm a little suspicious about it, he wants cash only, no bank transfers or cheques. Why would he not accept a bank transfer? Alarm bells are ringing!

Are they stock pipes or aftermarket? Genuine stock pipes are double skinned to prevent this happening, so if they are stock pipes something is wrong as it's running too hot (weak mixture/timing issues etc) If they are aftermarket or replica pipes they won't be double skinned so bluing is normal.

When were the carbs last balanced, out of sync carbs are the biggest cause of bottom end clatters on these old SOHCs

Honda GL1000K1 is the only other bike that uses those pins, pads and retainer. Dave Silver did have some of the pins about 18 months ago when I bought some.

So the fact is Bitsa will be laughing his head off again " F%*king pattern parts!"
He may have been a cantankerous argumentative old git, but he talked a lot of sense.

I would certainly check the head for flatness, as it doesn't look like it's been machined since the factory, and if it was that loose, if it wasn't warped it probably is now running that slack.
