Welcome to motorcycling Stone Age style! If you rotate the engine on the kickstart, the other set of points should open about half an engine rotations time. Yes, the points when they are closed are energising the coil they are connected to, when they open, the coil produces the spark. As regards whether you have damaged the coil, the only was to know is try it! Smoke, to replace that which was escaping from the coil used to be available at Lucas and some auto electrical specialists, but is as rare as camera film these days  Sent from my POT-LX1 using Tapatalk

That only applies to household bulbs Steve, to reduce power consumption in the home (leaving more available for people to charge their electric cars?) As motor vehicles produce their own electricity halogen bulbs will continue to be available. Funny enough, it's 10 years since standard bulbs for household use were banned from manufacture (EU meddling again!) and I'm glad I bought a load for my photographic enlarger as one blew last night!

U. S. Ahead lights are made to dip to the right (straight into oncoming traffic here in UK) Usually it is the fluting (ridges) in the lens that are set to direct low beam, so no, replacement is the only real option. The good news is, they are a standard 7 inch headlight as used by millions of cars until very recently, so there are many pattern ones out there (think Landrover defender, original mini, Morris Minor etc) also DSS does a single one for less than £30.

The bearing behind the locking ring will almost certainly be the culprit. Remove the locking ring and tap the bearing home (ONLY on the outside race!) and you will notice a change in the sound when you hit it and it's fully home. And Do Not machine anything of the spacer, it will not solve the issue!

My objection to VED on fuel is we would lose out as most of our real bikes are currently exempt, so putting it on fuel would be detrimental to most of us on here!

Well, 40 bits of metal not much thicker than piano wire, all under equal tension is all that stops the wheel collapsing under a quarter of a ton of bike, that's without the weight of rider and passenger, the shocks from bumps in the road, and the forces of inertia when cornering/acceleration or braking. Those little bits of metal have incredible forces going through them, enough that Honda fitted 40 of them, and the 36 on 400/4 and below would never support the stresses of a 750.

Problem is bikes make up less than 1% of road traffic in the UK, (but account for 30% of road fatalities according to insurers) so we are the minority on the roads. Which is why successive governments have got away with screwing us over. Road tax used to be about how much damage vehicles did to the roads, which is why HGVs get stung for thousands each year, but bikes do not damage the roads, so really they should all be tax exempt. Truth is we Are a minority, governments know that, so we will always get stung because the votes they risk losing are negligible, but they make 3 times what some cars pay for road tax from us, and we can shout and stamp our feet, but won't be heard.

Where are you seeing a vin plate odd-job, I can't see one looking on my phone? My 750F1 is a UK bike and had a vin plate on the right hand front downtube, registered Dec 75, so it could be a UK bike.

Answer to Q1. do NOT use it on a public road now you have mentioned it on here. Anyone can read that statement without being a member, so IF you were involved in any kind of incident, your insurers would just laugh at you, as you have used it KNOWING thee is a potentially dangerous fault in it. Insurers and other agencies have software which can scour the net for that kind of thing, and they do use any means to escape liability.
On to Q4, treat it as meths, don't drink it, avoid prolonged skin contact. Great for cleaning, degreasing, burning in spirit lamps/camping stoves etc
