Don't miss pubs at all, not been in one since they banned smoking in 2007, plus I've never found one that sells my favourite brew, Weston's special reserve cider, that said, at 8.4% abv one bottle would put you over the limit!

Yes they will fit, but you may find the 400f cables and electrics will need the longer U.S. versions due to the higher 350f bars.

Glad it's sorted, I've seen it a few times over the years. I've seen drastic bodges to deal with it as well, such as grinding the wheel to caliper spacer down, didn't sort it! The worst one someone took an angle grinder to the edge of the caliper to get clearance, then found that they couldn't get the inner pad in!

Misc / Open / Re: Frame preparation / stripping what's best?

Proper shot blasting is the best thing for a frame/swing arm. Bead blasting is more suited to softer metals like alloys etc.

Well I'm 56 with several health risk issues, had my call up last week, but declined. I asked if the nurse would be correctly attired in a uniform dress to be told they all wear those hideous shapeless scrubs, ugh! But my GP is aware of a serious needle phobia in me and ain't happy!

Nursey you didn't read that properly, he wants a photo of where the standard top hose joins the brake light switch block!

Humour / Simon Bates radio shows
« on: February 16, 2021, 01:53:23 PM »
Do you remember Simon Bate's' love songs on the radio and the story's. this was one of the most moving ones I ever heard
Barry from Whitehaven decided to propose to Sandy from Workington. (a mixed marriage).
Prior to her acceptance Sandy felt she had to confess to him about her childhood illness. She informed Barry that she suffered a disease that left her breasts the size of a 12 year olds.
He said that it was okay because he loved her so much and he didn't mind..
However, Barry felt this was also the time for him to open up and admit that he had a deformity too.
Barry looked Sandy in the eyes and said, 'I have a problem as well. My winky is the same size as an infant and I hope you can deal with that once we're married.'
She said, 'Yes, I love you and I will learn to live with your infant size willy.'
Sandy and Barry got married and they couldn't wait for the honeymoon.
Barry whisked Sandy off to their hotel room and they started touching, teasing and holding each another.
As Sandy put her hands in Baz's pants, she began to scream and ran out of the room! Barry ran after her to find out what was wrong.
She said, 'You told me your winky was the size of an infant!'
'It is,' he said. '7lbs, 8 oz and 19 inches long.'

I wouldn't advise the last suggestion as the spacer will be pressing on the inner race, which may well damage it. Safest to remove the wheel and bearing locking ring, then with a drift or large socket tap the OUTSIDE race home to its shoulder, then replace locking ring and refit the wheel, problem should be gone.

Have you replaced the wheel bearings? If the disc is touching the caliper, it is possible that the wheel bearing on the caliper side of the shell has not been tapped fully home, resulting in the retainer ring not screwing home quite as far as it should, which in turn allows the disc to be located incorrectly in relation to the caliper.

I don't know, I've seen people pay a lot more for much more shoddily built stuff, anything Italian springs to mind for build quality and style, and americas pride and joy hardly dangerous for reliability

It's nothing to worry about, it's a characteristic of a constant mesh gearbox, and is always more noticeable when the engine is cold and the oil is thick and dragging things about. They all do it to a lesser or greater degree.

Misc / Open / Re: Frame Painting is Powder Coating best?
« on: February 08, 2021, 01:04:55 PM »
Can I ask what do you do with the riveted on vin plate when you paint / powder coat?

It must be almost impossible to remove without marking the plate.

I'm advised that if you carefully drill out the rivet head then use cheese wire or similar to break any remaining adhesion between plate & frame they come off okay.

I'll just mask mine off if I paint the frame myself - this is my most likely plan - just need to check I can get Hamerite Smooth or Rust Oleum in my chosen shade of dark blue.
Be careful, smoothrite is NOT anything like as good as it used to be. The EU eurocrats decided that we citizens could not be trusted to use the original stuff safely, so it has been refunded formulated to have far less volatile organic compounds in it, namely halocarbons such as trichloroethylene, resulting in a basically rubbish product compared to what most of us remember. It now takes several coats to achieve anything like the protection a single coat of the old formula gave. I don't know about rustoleum as I've not used it for many years, but chances are it will be similarly interfered with.

CB500/550 / Re: Borrani wheels
« on: January 30, 2021, 12:50:23 PM »
It will only be the rims that are Borrani, alloy rims were a popular extra back in the day for these old Honda's, but as to value these days probably not much, as most people rebuild to standard rims. You MAY get a bit for them on e bay or similar if someone is doing a cafe racer build or similar, but to be honest the hubs if good are worth far more!
