CB350/400 / 400/4 vibration
« on: August 03, 2021, 08:34:43 PM »
Hi all, wonder if you could help me out with a problem that has surfaced on a 400/4 that has recently been returned to road worthiness. The bike had lain dismantled in the seller's garage for several years and been bestowed with umpteen faults by the previous owner(s). The bike now ticks over perfectly, responds to wrist action well, and gearbox and clutch action are good, BUT the engine vibrates almost continuously from 1000 to 8000RPM, not like a British vertical twin but certainly more than my other 400/4 which has similar vibration but only around 5000RPM. My suspects are the alternator rotor, clutch basket, and crank shaft. I would welcome thoughts and suggestions from forum members, i'm hoping for an easy fix but things rarely work out that way in my experience. Engine bolts are tight BTW.

Tricks & Tips / 400 Four Honda side cover paint stripping
« on: May 17, 2020, 01:59:32 PM »
Hi, Found something i can do during 'lockdown' (it's still on in Scotland). I would like to remove the old badly applied paint on the side covers and re-spray. Not sure if ordinary paint stripper will harm the plastic side covers or not. Can someone confirm damage/no damage and recommend a chemical paint stripper.
Thanks.

CB350/400 / Where was the 400/4 made
« on: May 16, 2020, 04:21:51 PM »
I've always thought that the 400/4 was made at Hamamatsu but that apparently is not the right answer and Wikipedia is not much help either. Could someone please enlighten me. Looks like this years Xmas book is already chosen if i can't get that right.  :)

CB350/400 / Clutch muscles
« on: May 16, 2020, 03:42:49 PM »
I've kinda accepted that walnut cracking left hand muscles are an essential part of 400/4 ownership until i spoke to a guy at a bike show who let me try his for size. His 400 was a David Silver refurb and i don't know how they did it but they have given his bike a really light clutch, though not hydraulic actuation light. Any one any ideas what the DS team have done to achieve this? I have read the advice on this and other forums re. smooth/lightish clutch action but none of it has worked for me. Thanks.

New Member Introductions / Finally came out
« on: May 16, 2020, 03:32:47 PM »
Hi all, i have been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks but  since you seem a decent bunch i thought i would finally come out. I have a F0 400/4 and a F2 both running not spot on but passably well and will hopefully improve. It took a year on and off to get all the electrical gremlins out of the F2 which the PO had fitted at no extra charge, the F0 is pretty much as Honda intended, was unmolested till i got it and has 'car like' reliability. Biggest problem i've had with it was getting Swansea to make it £0 VED, according to David Silver's guys it is a 1976 build but it was first registered in January 1978. Found out along the way that it has a North Europe rear mudguard so might have been imported. Anyway, finally managed to persuade someone at Swansea that it could'nt have been made and UK registered in a month and they grudgingly made it a 1977 build  ::) Hoping to get out on one or the other before Xmas. Safe riding all.
