Title: Frame cross piece dimensions
Post by: b_1_rd on April 01, 2024, 12:11:28 PM
Good morning all.

As you will see from the attached photo a previous owner has basically butchered the cross piece for the rear of the frame on the bike I’m slowly restoring. It’s not a million miles away from being ready to go back on the road after 26 years since my dad bought it as a box of bits. I’ve now inherited it and slowly working through everything.

I’m guessing this was a poor attempt at doing the cafe racer thing and then either changing their mind or selling it on and someone tried putting it back to original.  Looks to have been poorly hacked off with a blunt spoon and the replacement plate has been welded back at the wrong angle so the rear mudguard sits far too high.

Would someone be kind enough to provide the dimensions of the original piece so I can investigate getting one fabricated locally and have it welded back into place correctly? I’ll be tidying up the frame ends too, but it’s the cross piece I will need to have made I think.

This is on a CB550 F2 but I would expect all the 550’s would be similar.

Anyone? Just need a rough idea of what size this is. The main one is the height off the frame. Would just like to get it as close as possible so the mudguard sits it the right place.

Cheers.

Hi Steve,
Mine's an F1 (USA import but can't imagine any difference.
Here's a few shots with a rule close by to see if that helps.
