Julies kit contains all the O rings for a 400.
I'll remember that for next time, but well, y'know... I'm only after two little ones!  ;)

CB350/400 / A hunt for seals
« Last post by Athame57 on Today at 03:37:40 PM »
I'm on a hunt for some seals, and I don't mean with a club either!  ;D When I had my recent engine rebuild done, they mechanic told me that the large seal for the oil pump wasn't in the seal kit I had supplied. I got that part from DSS no problem but it turns out there are some very small seals that also ought to be changed (why not say before?) as I've still got some leaking I'll endeavour to get them.
They are parts 285 and the twice numbered (?) 286/7 0n the CMSL diagram I've posted here. https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb400f-england_model14639/partslist/E01-3.html  .
The seals numbered 285 (part # 91302044013) on the picture I can get from DSS as they are in stock, but 286/7 isn't in the associated parts list on the CMSL page I just linked, so I can't pull up the proper part number/s to put into the DSS search box, so I'm stuck. Can anyone help?

Marvellous idea to make that wriggly tin chute. 10/10.

I remember watching the Concrete being pumped up to make all the six floors on the new building next to ours in Docklands in the 90's...twas like a military operation with Cement Mixers coming and going all day.......then later seeing the huge Glass windows being manoeuvred into place using small cranes inside the building with suckers on the 4 arms......again it went like clockwork......but the best was a bloke cutting through massive foam blocks at an angle to make the ramps which concrete was then poured onto to finish the pedestrian steps down to 'The Six Public Clocks'.

Thinking back to those days also reminded me that during the construction that building, a fine young man lost his life when he fell 40 feet after he stepped on a flimsy sheet of plywood covering an open shaft. His young Widow later made a heartfelt video about the tragedy, and we showed it to many of our London Underground Employees and our Contractors. We had many tearful sessions as the enormity of a simple f*ck up unravelled to take a young man's life hit home. I'll make no apologies for this as it's a story worth telling again.....because it was a death that should never have happened, and to show that the courage and fortitude of his Wife, Jennifer Deeney is something that's a shining example to us all.   https://www.lattitudesafety.co.uk/programmes/it-will-never-happen-to-me/

It's clearly not my day today.

Well, came to fit the oil seal in the retainer and it does not want to fit - it clearly is the right size as it looks as it will fit the old retainer just fine when I tentatively part fitted it!
I dont want to risk damaging the seal trying to make it fit so I am sending the retainer back to DS for replacement.

That's put me back a few days now - I am going to return the DS retainer ring part in the hope that a replacement one is from the new production batch.

A few updates. I’ve soldered new HT leads in the coils and completed encapsulation with the recommended RS epoxy. Just need to cosmetically finish them off with some Milliput. I was concerned about too much heat input when soldering and used fine nosed pliers as a heat sink. The epoxy took a couple of days to harden fully, not helped by relatively low overnight temperatures in the garage. Final electrical tests confirmed the coils have survived my efforts.

The powder coated brake and sprocket plates have arrived back but I’m still waiting for a rear sprocket which should finally arrive later today. The stock size seems to be in short supply with plenty advertised on eBay but which become out of stock when you order. My first order did not appear and I had to cancel and get a refund. The next supplier claimed 10 available but subsequently had “a stock Issue” now promised today.

My gauges arrived back this morning from Peter Horton who has done a fantastic job. I couldn’t resist a quick look on the bike, they really do look brand new.

I sent them to Peter because I could see traces of oil droplets inside the glasses. Peter found that the grease had solidified and the mileage counter wheels had stuck together which in operation would have stripped the gears or snapped the drive cable.

It's 7200 x 4800, yeah I do feel a bit knackered today but I did have 2.5 helpers.  Making a concrete chute through the hedge out of corrugated tin was the best idea I had, it made it so much easier, oh and hiring a speed float and easy screed followed by 3 pints while it began curing😀

If the MBE is awarded to those who stand out in their field, why hasn't Worzel Gummidge been given one?  :o
