Other Bikes / YZF-R125 My Next Project
« on: May 06, 2021, 08:41:56 PM »
I just bought this 2010 non-runner. It's not a classic but it is SOHC . Has some crash damage and lots if corrosion. It's been left outside for at 3 years. Apparently it was making a ting ting ting noise for about a month before it conked out and wouldn't start again 3 years ago. Seems seized now. Anyone on here have any experience with these?

CB750 / Phil Read Replica Test Going Free
« on: November 06, 2015, 08:29:35 PM »
Hi all,

I recently acquired my latest restoration project. A 1986 Honda VF500F2F. Whilst going through all the paperwork I came across some pages torn out of the November 1997 Classic Bike magazine. It's a 5 page test of the Phil Read replica owned at the time by Mike Rendall and tested by Phil himself. See pic attached.

Free to the first replier who would like it.

Misc / Open / Bidford Vintage Gathering Last Weekend
« on: May 19, 2015, 09:12:44 PM »
I entered the little CB in my local show again this year. Last year I got 3rd place. This year, despite the bike being totally finished, I didn't win a prize :(. Some pictures attached. It got so much interest this year. Nearly everyone I spoke to ether wanted one or had one and were full of complement. I had 2 offers to buy it and in fact I took one of them. Miss it now of course. I'll be on the look out for another project later in the year.

Other Bikes / Mistry Steering Stem
« on: April 08, 2015, 08:43:32 AM »
This is the bottom yoke and stem that was fitted to my 400/4 but it's off another bike. Any idea what? The stem is a few mm shorter and the hole for the steering lock is higher up the stem. Stanchion diameter is the same and stem diameter is the same. There were some spares for another bike in the boxes of crap I got with my 400. I think most of them were CB or CJ360 but I'm not certain. Any help much appreciated.

CB350/400 / Spoked Up
« on: April 05, 2015, 03:08:57 PM »
I've just finished building my front wheel with new stainless spokes and DS rim. I't's nicely trued but should I be aiming for a particular torque on the nipples?

CB350/400 / Simple Kill Switch Question
« on: January 13, 2015, 11:18:13 AM »
I've finally started the restoration on the switch gear PDAY sent me for my 400. My question is does the kill switch pry off OK? I didn't want to try, and break it without asking. Seems pretty solid.

CB350/400 / Sump Mess
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:18:08 PM »
I'm still building up my spare engine and just digging out the outer casing for cleaning and spraying. I have two sumps but both have been over tightened and cracked. I know the other one leaks a bit, so I'd prefer to use this one. The question is, would you grind down this bird shit welding or leave it as it is?

CB350/400 / Switchgear Wiring Route
« on: October 04, 2014, 05:09:24 PM »
Hi all,
I fitted my newly chromed handlebar today. This is a genuine one with the holes in for the switch wires. The one it is replacing is a pattern without the holes. So I routed the wires inside the bar OK but when I came to fit the switchgear, I found it a bit awkward. I thought the wires would route from inside the switch block straight into the handlebar holes but they didn't want to do that. Have a look at the photos attached and see if you think that is right.

Tricks & Tips / Gunk Warning
« on: September 09, 2014, 10:29:57 PM »
Just something to be aware of if you decided to try the new NATURAL GREEN GUNK. Left this front brake bracket in it to soak for a couple of days and quite a bit of aluminium has been eaten away. There was quite a bit of silt in the bottom of the pot. That would never have happened with good old petroleum based Gunk.

CB350/400 / Pain in the Clutch
« on: September 07, 2014, 06:48:36 PM »
My clutch drag is starting to be a right pain in the arse. I've stripped and checked everything 3 times now. I've fitted new friction plates, genuine clutch springs, thrust washer, basket internal collar (top hat bearing) and clutch cable. None of this has made any difference. The lifter mechanism looks to be in very good condition. The metal plates are perfectly flat. Everything rotates freely in neutral but in gear it's chomping at the bit and you just can't get it into neutral. You can get in it fine while you are still rolling. What an I missing? I've been working on my own bikes for over 30 years but this has me stumped now :'(.
I've included a photo as I'm a bit concerned about the amount I have had to screw up the bottom cable adjuster and also the adjusting screw seems to be screwed in quite a long way to me. There is also seems to be quite a gap between the back of the little lifter arm and the shaft seal.

Any help much appreciated.

CB350/400 / Tapeded Roller Steering Bearing Kit Question
« on: August 25, 2014, 08:39:37 PM »
I've recently purchased a taper roller set for the front end refurb of my 400. I suspect the steering stem on the bike now is from a CJ360T as the spares I got with the bike seems to include a few for that model. It's too short to fit the washer under the stem nut and there is no hole in it for the steering lock bolt. I do have a spare which has the hole in the stem but The bearing kit comes with a choice of bottom washers and sealing washers. Any idea which ones I need to fit? Photo attached. There is a thick and a thin of each.

Thanks in advance.
Steve
