The Black Bomber Board / 71 CB450K4 float levels
« on: February 09, 2020, 06:24:12 PM »
I have my 450 running, which is surprising as it was seized when I got it, but not very well.
New plugs, points, condensers, nice bright blue spark at the right time.
Carbs are spotless, all primaries etc cleaned out, and rebuild kits inc floats.
The bike is difficult to start, will run nicely at highish revs, but as it settles to tickover it dies, seems to need air which leaves me thinking its float heights.....

Can someone confirm is it 20mm to the gasket face or to the body flange?? I have them set to gasket face, which seemed the most common advice, but looking at the card tools they must set it to body flange, which is a 2mm difference.....

The Black Bomber Board / Alternator rotor puller.
« on: December 01, 2019, 03:04:48 PM »
Hi all,

I just returned to Classic Honda ownership, after selling off my sohc 750s and parts a few years ago.

I have. 1971 450, and just looking to remove the alternator rotor, is the puller needed anything more than an M16 screw with a fine thread draw bolt up the middle?? If so I’ll just make one up, and a protector disc for the bolt to push on and protect the crank.

Cheers.

CB750 / Four into Two Exhaust system
« on: February 21, 2018, 07:14:46 PM »
Does anyone know of a maker / supplier of 4-2 exhausts. I’m using a 392 engine in a 71 chassis, so would need K6/7 exhausts.

Ive a few sets of headers, 4-4 and 4-1 so could make my own, but re chroming would be as much as aftermarket pipes.

Cant find any references, but do the dots on the 392 pistons go to the front of the engine?.

Cheers.

CB750 / K1 Seat rubber buffer hole size
« on: January 28, 2016, 07:57:37 PM »
I bought a seat base of eBay, in a heavier gauge than original, but, it was cheap as the rubber buffer holes are too big.

I need to do some welding this weekend so was going to correct them, can anyone tell me what diameter they should be?

Its for the rectangular seat to frame buffers, K1/2 etc.

Cheers.

CB750 / Spoke set suppliers
« on: November 17, 2015, 12:45:32 PM »
Does anyone know a UK supplier of spoke sets.

I'd like galvanised steel to match the back wheel which is in good order, there seems to be lots of suppliers in the USA at about £35, but postage is expensive.

Cheers.

CB750 / Honda year of manufacture contact
« on: October 18, 2015, 03:44:24 PM »
I was checking my paperwork and realised my YOM certificate has the wrong chassis number, they've typed a 2 for a 4, clearly DVLA will spot this too.
Problem is I've lost the contact details for the one helpful person at Honda, does anyone have her contact, I think its Sarah, Tracey or a similar name? I also remember emailing, so if anyone has the email address it would be great.
Cheers.

CB750 / Early K Fork Gator fitting
« on: October 11, 2015, 01:59:55 PM »
Hope someone can help me, I just tried to fit the K2 fork gators onto the headlamp brackets, how on earth do you get the chrome trim ring on, it wont slide up the bracket 1st, if I put it on the gator first there is no way it will go on the bracket...

Should he ring be able to slide up the bracket? I have welded some new metal in where there was corrosion so may have ended up with them too big in diameter......

CB750 / CB750 Exhaust studs
« on: October 10, 2015, 11:18:43 AM »
The exhaust studs in my engine had been replaced with bits of threaded bar.

Am I right in thinking the genuine ones reduce in diameter to M6 ?? looking at various pictures they seem to reduce in diameter I'm guessing to give some fitting clearance for the collars.

CB750 / F1 F2 Barrel to head dowels.
« on: July 25, 2015, 04:44:52 PM »
I'm in the process of building 2 engines, a 392 and a 410.

The 392 F1 has 8 dowels with rubber collars 4 each between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4, easy.

The 410 parts book only shows 4 dowels, do these go on the inner or outer studs, I can't make it out from the drawings, I'm guessing its something to do with the single oil drains on the 410.

Cheers.

CB750 / F2 Fork slider ribs - removal?
« on: April 24, 2015, 11:33:44 AM »
The F2 forks have a rib cast in front and back which makes polishing a tad difficult, plus they don't look as 'clean' as earlier versions.
I'm thinking of machining the ribs off, what I'm not sure about is whether this would reduce the strength significantly? Earlier models seem to do OK without ribs, I'm thinking it may be for manufacturing ease.
But would value the collective wisdom here....

CB750 / Flashback
« on: July 03, 2014, 07:46:13 AM »
I was building a set of K2 carbs up onto the new bracket Ash sent me, Thanks again Ash, when this smell 'appeared' and I was right back to 1977 cleaning some CB250 carbs up in my Dads garage!! It was just the smell of the old petrol stains in the Honda's carbs, but it took me right back, really strange feeling.

Anyways, its renewed my vigour to get the YOM Certificate sorted out with the people at Honda!!

CB750 / Honda YOM Contact
« on: June 29, 2014, 06:42:00 PM »
Does anyone have the name of someone senior at the Honda Year Of Manufacture team?

Its been three months since they sent me an incorrect YOM letter, they've inserted an F in the frame number and its come back 1977, should be about 72!!

I've written twice, emailed phoned, and am just getting nowhere, basically they have sold me a service not fit for purpose, vosa wouldn't accept a frame number different to all the other documentation.

I'm hoping to find a named contact, to try and pin something down, before I have to resort to legal steps....

Cheers.

CB750 / K2 carb throttle spindle carrier.
« on: June 06, 2014, 08:39:44 PM »
My carb throttle spindle carrier / mounting bracket is broken, on taking it to bits I find the 10mm shaft is running in a 13mm bore in the ally casting.

Before I go hunting for another casting, are there different sizes, or should there be a bushing in each of the casting lugs which the shaft runs in?

do these issues ever stop, I had less hassle with the E Type.....

Cheers.

Pete.
