Project Board / Re: Alternative wiring connectors for multi junctions
« on: January 09, 2019, 06:01:40 PM »
As Brian mentioned you will require a 'w' crimp tool for non-insulated terminals.
The 2.8mm connectors that you have chosen are ideal for areas with limited space (head light shell) most Kawasaki triples have them.
The problem that I have found with the 2.8mm terminals is that the terminal material thickness are not the same (approximate size- pin 0.40mm socket 0.25mm)
From experience (loose wires/broken terminals), I now use 2 type's of 'w' crimpers (as image) heavy tool for the pin/lighter tool for the socket

HI Kevin,

I misunderstood the question, I thought someone had replaced the 3.5mm multi socket connectors with mini-block connectors.. 'black 5-way and 4-ways'?
As you mentioned the OE 3.5mm 4-way socket connectors are a bit 'soft' and are better replaced with 2-way or 3-way 3.9mm sockets (see image)
Some doubling-up of wiring will be required to form the additional sockets.

PS your other post 'MOT, park/city light in head light requirement' I've had 9 MOT's on my CB750 K4 with no problems...no one mentioned it.

The best solution is to replace the round pin connectors with 6.3mm spade connectors (as image, Yamaha RD250 alternator conversion)
Just curious, which Honda are you working on?

I always enjoy the trip/visit to the 'Stafford' show, not too far from Manchester.
Very nice CB750 on the VJMC stand (as image) restoration by Karen Wicks...? not sure I got the last name correct? but, the bike was spot-on.

As you have a 12v+ supply at the  solenoid (Yellow/red wire) from the starter button, you will also need a neutral switch or clutch switch to complete the circuit.
Do you have a wiring diagram for the F model?...the earlier CB550 K0,K1 does not apply

The earlier CB550K had a 5 wire safety switch, its possible that the later CB550K3 had a 2 wire safety switch which was also fitted to the F model.
Have you fitted a diode (as image) to the 2-way socket?

Maybe I've not read the posts properly, but is your bike a CB550..K..or.. F  wiring looms are different

The field coil in the CB750K is rated at 190watt (less 19w running) net power 171watt. As  the CB750A f/coil is rated at 250watt (less 40w running) net power 210watts.
They are interchangeable, not sure why Honda fitted a higher wattage coil in the CB750A...increased battery size?

HRC fuses, (high rupturing capacity) are normally manufactured with a ribbon type fuse wire, ribbon type fuses re-acts quicker to 'short circuit' & 'over load' conditions.

Thanks Simon, I much prefer the dual (black & white) glass fibre insulation as fitted to the original CB750 alternator harness. Honda and Kawasaki (image attached) chose this specification due to the extreme heat/vibration around hot engine components.
Modern plastics & heat shrink insulation are good, but will dry out and crack when subjected to excessive heat/vibration.

Thanks Simon, glad the loom worked out.  Good luck with your search for a choke cable assembly...or peg!

I 'think' the choke set-up is similar to my 1980 XL500s (as image)
Once the grommet is pushed up, the plastic nut below is turned slightly (there are plastic collets within the nut that grip the choke shaft) If there is no resistance on this nut its possible the plastic collets have broken.

Unfortunately, the diagrams do not  give the orientation and type of connector.

The grommet is part of the sub-loom item No. 31110-333-000
I made a batch recently (as image) PM me if you are still looking for one.
