Title: Hi from Essex
Post by: Martin6 on February 04, 2023, 04:56:19 PM
Hi,
I've just been allowed in!

I currently ride about 10,000 miles a year. I have a 1250GS for tours (this year will be N Wales, northern Spain in June and Italy in September) and local riding, weekly with mates. I also have an 850 Norton Commando, which I've worked on over the last few years. Nothing too major, new tank and seat, a number of niggling issues, carb refresh, starter sprag, clutch, hydraulic primary chain tensioner, crankcase breather, new chains, tyres and re-laced the front wheel, plus a few minor jobs and full services. That is so far the limit of my mechanical experience. I've really enjoyed it and now get a couple thousand reliable miles on the bike each year.

But, there's an itch I need to scratch. I'm now looking for a CB750, up to K6. Budget's not vast. I've done some research, so still getting up to speed on things to look for. So far I've seen some 'restored' US imports. But they seem to be new paint and saddle, maybe a carb clean, but no sense of what's underneath, even what mileage might be on the engine. So, I'm still looking. I'm happy to take on tidy-up type work, on a basically sound bike mechanically.

I found this forum and liked what I saw. Hopefully I'll soon have a bike and look forward to picking brains and contributing.

Martin

Hello Martin,
Welcome to the forum from Orkney!
Plenty of great advice on 750s here - I don't have one, just 350,400 and 550 fours - plus too many others.
I'm sure the others will chime in soon - perhaps someone has what you are looking for - that's how my recently acquired 550 ended up here in the toy cupboard!

Ian

Hi Martin, welcome to this forum and happy hunting for your 750. I have a 750k3 from the states. Needed a total rebuild, but I knew before I bought it. Plenty of knowledge on here regarding 750 and other models as Ian pointed out.

Welcome Martin, I have a UK 750K2 and a 750 based CR750 Replica. Built them with much help from experts on here - so ask away for info on your potential purchase. Good luck on your search!

CB750s are selling for silly money where I live (Ireland) - I’d love one myself but nothing to be had for less than 7k that isn’t a basket case.

There is one in the auction site that looks cheapish. Looks a bit odd, but maybe that's the seat throwing it all out of perspective. Listed as turns over but non-runner though so might need an engine check-over

Looks odd because it is a bitsa of every 750 known to man  ;)

I have a UK CB750 K2 1972, Candy custom gold that will be coming up for sale in the spring but, you need a bit more than 7K  :o

I think you may be a bit more adventurous than me  :)

I've been looking on ebay and the other usual sites. I'm wary of the fresh US imports. Not sure what I might get myself into and whether it might be beyond me. I don't fancy non-runners and no wiring loom...

Not looking for pristine, but some comfort it runs well, without having to first take the engine out of the frame, at this stage. £6-£7k would be my area. Do you think I'm unlikely to find a decent bike in that price range?

There are so many seller throwing bikes together and looking for top money.

Look at this very over priced one with 550 aftermarket clocks. Just because it says Sliver someone will find themselves with a bike that needs a ton of parts >>> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204230679128?hash=item2f8d18da58:g:H2cAAOSw-KFj2kxR&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAkAf0BwbVPQMifaJX4b2NgDuOOwRMkHSrH88uH9Qc13GrrPRwYkSfu%2FUpK2I4zbdxgRJi8lN%2FAqWR78awwTsy1O00zAL%2B5hFlTF3I1tn0tmuXwsVNIdMCXgtt7iyetnbhfwhSAF51VyfUXyLmEMvpMkAkvHkIKSe46B0HpGaPwOYos2wqu6rWXewv2Op5Jx%2FQmw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4bQq5jGYQ

I may go and look at these. Classic Bike Imports Ltd. / Freddiethefatfrog (!)

Has anyone dealt with them or able to recommend them?
1.

The UK one looks interesting.

And this one, Marvel Motorcycles, Bucks

Appreciate any views. Thanks,

Non are UK bikes  ;)
They state UK registered. The only one that is UK is the K6 with the wrong back end.
The frog is known in the business as not a reputable dealer as, some time ago he sold a sandcast with the Vin number changed on the frame  :o

The one at Marvel motorcycles has been for sale about 3 years now. Also a USA Import that someone has tried to make it look like a UK bike.

To get a good CB750, you have to know the pros and cons, looking past the the bling  ;)

1st photo is my UK model K2, I sold it a few weeks ago. It will give you an idea of what a UK model should look like.

2nd photo is our UK model K6, once again, it'll give you an idea. The black 550 Mongrel behind is another one of my bikes.

Julie, I thought your K2 was planet blue! As you know, mine is planet blue but prefer the ruby red - I have a spare newly painted red tank/side panels but its the later tank and not sure about doing V5 colour change and then deciding the revert to the planet blue later (and all the colour changes recorded on the v5)

Well remembered Phil. I was going to have it painted Planet Blue but changed my mind on this one at the last minute and went for Candy Ruby Red 😊😊😊😊

There is no doubt these are lovely bikes. I would be very happy with being the custodian of any one of these bikes, especially knowing where they came from. I’ve never really been a fan of heavily modified bikes purely because I lack imagination for them, but I do like that mongrel. (not heavily modified of course) 😜😜
