Thanks Trigger. I need to finish off what i am doing tomorrow and start cleaning the engine up then.
I have a few questions about that. Do i need to take off the cam cover 1st. The carbs are off already.
How do I protect the powder coat as I know it can be a tight fit.
I have heard you can check the cam chain tensioner while the air box is off somehow. Must be easier while its out of the bike but not sure what to do assuming the story is correct.
Anything else I can do while its out of the bike to make life easier? Its a runner by the way - when I bought it but obviously not run for a few months now and not been inspected or serviced.
All I know is its ran and sounded ok before purchase.
As usual your help would be appreciated lads.

Great - will do it tomorrow. What next? Fit wheels, electrics, fit engine ?
Just to confirm - all powder coated, fitted new tapered bearings and completed steering except nuts, swing arm fitted with new bushes and rear shocks.

Once again thank's for the advice - job done. One nipple didn't work so glad I checked. The other was fine so left alone.
Swing arm now on and SLOWLY but surely getting there.
I have to go backwards tomorrow a little bit. I have not fitted the bolts to the steering/ yolk. I can't find any reference to torque settings in the haynes.
Any ideas where to look on the tinternet?

Do i just pull the old ones out?

As I have rebuilt the swing arm, changed bearings and powder coat, renewed dust seals and caps etc, I bought two replacement grease nipples incase of ware and blockages etc.
However in my ignorance I assumed these screwed in but as the picture shows there are no threads.
How do I get the old ones out and fit new ones without a thread?

Thanks Mick. You gave me the courage to carry on. All done now. See pic.  A few things though :-
The originals had a rubber membrane which I assume aided the damping but these new ones do not. Any idea why?

Secondly and lastly - I bought new bushes for the swing arm at the front which I thought would be plastic - as mentioned elsewhere  - but there not. They do not appear to be worn and look as good as new even though I thought their was play there isn't. It must have been loose in the frame when I tried. Anyway I know the method with a threaded bar to remove these but I do not possess one.
It might take some effort and banging to remove the old ones. As the arm is already powder coated is it worth the effort on a 40k usa bike when all appears to be well?

I have removed the old bushes from the swing to fit new ones for the rear shocks but they would not fit. I then thought there was still a outer shell which needs to come out but as I started sawing through I thought id better confirm with you its the correct thing to do. Please advise me.
Secimd pic is what im attempting to do.

There was a lot of play in the swing arm before I dismantled it. To be honest I am replacing the shock bearings because I have new shocks and thought it best.

Thanks for the info Bitsa.
Just to confirm on the bearings for the shocks Trigger - they are tapered so should be pushed in with a socket not out??

CB750 / chrome ring on front forks
« on: January 03, 2015, 09:53:57 AM »
I have almost rebuilt both forks now, just this chrome ring which is not obvious to me what the function is.
Firstly is it this way up?
Secondly when fitting do you push it over the rubber gator, attach gator  then push up into the bottom of the chrome ear to keep the gator on?
Or is it just for looks?
Help much appreciated as usual !
