Title: DONATIONS
Post by: Nurse Julie on March 06, 2024, 03:37:40 PM
The budget has now been announced, I'm sure we are all feeling really flush and wondering  how to spend our new found wealth 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
The forum does not run on thin air or goodwill, it needs donations to enable Steve D to continue providing the wherewithal to keep this fantastic forum going. Your donations would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Been here less than a week and just donated. Great site, full of knowledge and from what I can see so far great people.

Thanks Steve D for all that you do.

When I first joined this site you could view who had recently donated and by how much. I used this to obtain some sort of handle on what was being donated, my default position has been £10 a year as I am not advertising a link to e-bay for parts or selling parts here as a business.

I have given parts away for the cost of postage if it's heavy or completely f.o.c.
I have sold some bigger bits here for either a loss or break even.
Likewise when I am given parts here I make an additional donation to the site usually by agreement with the member.

I have no idea as to the costs of running this site although I have noticed only one sponsor is listed who is outside the UK I think.

Previously I have been on Nissan 4x4 forum where the membership was £10.00 for twelve months - I was a member for many years after I sold our Nissan & Moved to Jeep.

I made my last donation in January 2024 of £10 iirc in a way I wish we had either a fixed fee or a recommended minimum especially if it ensured the long term survival of this excellent forum.

The last time the costs were discussed, I'm sure Steve said it was about £400 a year, and that was many years ago. Maybe Steve could update us on the current figure so we all have an idea.
Ted, not all sponsors advertise with their logo.

Just donated, not sure when last time was but but relatively recently I think. However recent events reminded me of what a excellent but difficult job at times he does. Well done Steve.

I have no idea how many Sponsors are here as there is a side bar I assume all sponsors are listed with or without a logo.
Are you saying that you or Graham are site sponsers without a logo?

Likewise I have no idea how many active members there are - I can only guess that with the volunary donation system it works for Steve as it is.

I don't remember when I last donated so I will do so now, over the years this site has helped with advice, information and recommendations so it's only right that I pay something back

Cheers

Many thanks to all who have made donations.

For anyone new, the forum costs about £400 per year to host which I am happy to do and have done since 2007.

The forum software (SMF) is old but stable and does the job. Unfortunately, additional functionality is only available if people write custom plug-ins (SMF call them "Mods") and one such was the Treasury Mod that people have mentioned. It allowed members to make a donation and add their details to the list (if they wanted to) so that everyone could see the donation history.
As time moves on, some of these developers lose the enthusiasm to keep updating their software with the evolving PHP server software and threat levels. Once they get too out of date they are labelled "abandoned" and are too dangerous to use.

The only way of doing donations at the moment is via the PayPal link which is pretty impersonal but works.

To all those that have donated this week (you know who you are) - many thanks.

Steve

Just donated again, this forum has been excellent already in such a short amount of time. I wish I’d jumped in years ago. Thanks for keeping this going.

Nothing so exciting unfortunately Ted, I had very unruly hair as a kid in the 70s, often commented on at the time and it’s a play on words similar to my surname that a mate came up with. I’ve learned to control the hair somewhat but it would still grow vertical if I let it!
