Hi Guys , need to replace seals in leaking front brake master cylinder . Going to order a repair kit from DS , should i order genuine or aftermarket. Is it a straightforward job to replace seals etc.
Thanks

Either are fine Chris.

What I have on my handlebar is the aftermarket one from DS, it is fine, the whole unit goes straight on and it is cheaper than replacing the just the piston kit for the original that you have to tinker about fitting.

Seal kits are OK but stripping the master without correct circlip pliers is just about impossible

+1 for what Bryanj said, I have never worked on anything more frustrating than that little circlip!

+ another on that as I am just finding out >:( >:( just sent for another set of Circlip pliers with long thin blades. If they still don't fit I will be taking the grinding wheel to them ;) ;)
Brian,
Is there any spec on the correct ones for the job.

Athame, are you referring to the whole pattern handlebar part, reservoir and all?

I removed that circlip without pliers - just a pick tool hooked into one of the holes. However: I doubt I would have been able to do it if the clip hadn't been properly stuck in place by corrosion. Instead of just spinning in its slot, it curled its way out - bent beyond use, but reuse was never part of the plan!

If the cylinder has never been apart before the chances are the inside is corroded, so best option is to replace the whole set up, if you want to keep it original you can get the cylinders relined at past past in Norfolk, they do a top job.

Even the genuine Honda tool was a swine to use but did actualy work. I think there is a pic in the workshop manual.

I did so much internet research before this job, but I never saw anyone suggest this... brilliant!

It works as long as it is a spring divider with the points that come together. Find a good old set and harden the tips. And always remember to remove the ring clip that holds the rubber dust cover first ;)
