I'm not convinced this is a proper 'transition' bike. But looks like a decent base for restoration or clean-up.

Looks to be a proper UK K0 with single pull carbs. The only non standard part i can see is the handlebars.
I think a transition bike was thought up by a author of a book :o

I’m dubious about interfering and getting shot to pieces, as I always thought that the ‘transition’ model was an ‘urban myth’, so thanks to AshimotoK0 and his useful little book. How many bikes did Honda make monthly at this time? I thought that it was about 100 per day, which would make this bike a little short of 2700 later than mine or 27 days. I’ve established that my bike was manufactured in March 1970, which would make this one early May at the latest. I’ll be curious to see how much it goes for just to make me feel better about what I paid.

Thanks Dennis, I checked the link and some of the links in that, which still work. It was very informative and entertaining; I like the pictures. Clearly the K0 transition model, as opposed to the US K0 which is everything pre K1, really does exist. It just seemed very un-Honda like to use a mix of parts as they changed models. The other Japanese manufacturers yes, in fact Suzuki are famous for it but Honda has always seemed more methodical. I live and learn.

I’ve just finished restoring a JDM K0 that fell into the ‘transition’ bike range (in Japan the JDM K0’s ran into the 1046xxx range)…this was an interesting one as has quite a few differences to a std US spec K0, plus the transition aspects (mainly the carbs).

The auction bike seems to be a die cast CB750, rather than a K0 transition if Ash’s book is anything to go by, the numbers are too low.
I enjoyed looking at the auction results, I was outside the auction at the Silverstone Classic as I am too tight to buy a programme, which acts as a ticket. They are suitably expensive to keep scrotes like me out. Do the results include the 15% buyers premium I wonder? It makes quite a difference to what the prices were like compared to what people ask in adverts.

I'm concerned James, if you brake hard on that do you end up banging yer nuts on the upper yoke? it looks terribly slippery.

Auction results seem to be all over the place at the moment Dave. Interesting that a pair of GS1000’s sold for circa £13k each last week at auction.
