Hello James, You won't remember me but you sold me a set of original carbs for my 1970 bike about four years ago. Sad to say that I got distracted and it still isn't finished but I intend to finish the bike this year come hell or high water before I'm too old to ride it. I would like a 'Clamp Set' if possible. If so, how do I pay you? I'm happy to pay up front and wait for clamps at your convenience. I'm a bit like 'Winny the Pooh', in that I 'can't decide'. One of the distractions was/is the bodywork. I was going to send everything off to Menno but I'm not happy with the DS side panels that came with the bike. You got me to thinking that I should bite the bullet and follow your example by purchasing a body set from Yamiya. Correct colour, mesh in the panels etc.  TTFN, Phil Lloyd.

Thanks Dennis, I checked the link and some of the links in that, which still work.  It was very informative and entertaining; I like the pictures. Clearly the K0 transition model, as opposed to the US K0 which is everything pre K1, really does exist. It just seemed very un-Honda like to use a mix of parts as they changed models. The other Japanese manufacturers yes, in fact Suzuki are famous for it but Honda has always seemed more methodical. I live and learn.

I’m dubious about interfering and getting shot to pieces, as I always thought that the ‘transition’ model was an ‘urban myth’, so thanks to AshimotoK0  and his useful little book. How many bikes did Honda make monthly at this time?  I thought that it was about 100 per day, which would make this bike a little short of 2700 later than mine or 27 days. I’ve established that my bike was manufactured in March 1970, which would make this one early May at the latest. I’ll be curious to see how much it goes for just to make me feel better about what I paid.

You're correct, they are a lot more from DS. I'll report back when they arrive. Thanks for the info.

CB750 / Fork Stanchion Studs - CB750 - 1970

I haven't done much on my CB750 of late to the point that even SWMBO has told me to get on with it. The forks need refurbishing, so I went onto the DS site and ordered some of the bits that I will need. When we got to the studs, the operator said that the 8X49 studs shown for my bike 92700-08049 (and several other models) have been replaced by 92900-080-320B, which is shown on the DS site as 'BOLT, STUD, 8X32 *L'. This is where I get told off by Trigger but 17mm seems a lot to lose or have I got it hopelessly wrong? I ordered them, as I have a sort of blind faith in Honda but I await their arrival with interest.

Your garage is neat and tidy, the floor looks to be tiled, you own a TR6 and are getting on nicely with a very tidy K1. May I borrow your magic wand?

I usually use Morrison Lubricants (Not the Supermarket). Their website recommends:
1st Choice Race 4 TT 10W-40 - Part No. FTT.
2nd Choice Race Sport 4 - Part No. SSF.

I usually buy mine in advance at motorcycle shows and autojumbles like Kempton Park but they do sell their oil on-line and have a technical desk if you have any questions.

CB750 / Removal of 1970 - 1971 Steering Locks
« on: December 15, 2019, 04:18:10 PM »
Andrew - S: Thanks for the tip, I've saved the link in case I need it. The import duty is more than the product! That needs to be checked but it may be a simple case of, they've got it and I want it.

the-chauffeur: Well done. I've got one out.  Not the one that I wanted but it may still come good for me. I did as you said and put the worn key in the 'sleeved' lock, expecting a long fight and it turned straight away and out popped the lock. I can't get the spring out, so that can stay put but the lock is out. I can't even get the key into the other lock. It will go in about 1/4" and then jams. I suspected a broken key but a good look shows a clear passage, so something has stuck. It's now sitting in the garage, bathing in WD40 but I have no great expectation of success, so I may have to take Julie's advice and drill this one. Something that I've never had much success with.

CB750 / Removal of 1970 - 1971 Steering Locks

Dear each, thanks for all your replies. Both of these locks have the key number on the face of the lock but I don't have keys with the same numbers. I have a very worn Honda key, so I'll have a bash at 'jiggling' the locks. If not, does anyone know of a key supplier? I did try a bloke in the USA some time ago but he wasn't accustomed to posting overseas and wanted me to send cash through PayPal.  I tried but PayPal wouldn't allow and international transfer. I'm going into the garage later, so I'll post it if I'm successful.

CB750 / Removal of 1970 - 1971 Steering Locks

In the continuing saga of my top yoke, I've received the set that I ordered on e-bay from the USA. I've checked it over and it seems to be okay but I may need to paint it, in which case the bottom yoke gets painted with it. The seller said that the yokes came from a K1 and mine is a March 1970, so I was surprised when I took the plastic cap off the steering lock to find that this one has a steel collar/sleeve, which my other (earlier?) lock does not. Here's the rub. I cannot get either lock out of the yoke. There must be a way, as Honda don't employ magicians to put them in. The original clearly has a pin, which defies all efforts to remove it. Does anyone know a 'trick'? The 'new' one doesn't seem to have anything that I can see to remove. The pictures will hopefully explain it better than I can.

It's a write off either way but having done it once, what kind of idiot confirms that they're stupid by making the other side match?  Unless it was a shunt, in which case they appear to have come from another bike, as there's no evidence of frame damage on mine.

If this works and with me at the helm, there's no guarantee, there should be three pictures of the dodgy top yoke. Blasting has cleaned of the paint but some of the putty used to hide the damage under a layer of paint, together with the roll pins, can still be seen. I bought the one Eric identified on E-Bay USA earlier today for about £200. Apparently, the seller is known on the US site and is okay, so I'm hopeful. There again the bike seller was 100% on e-bay but thankfully, I've never seen him on this forum. The one I bought is supposed to be from a 1971 bike, which would be a K1 but although it's definitely the same as mine, I thought that the K1 had the first if the metal clock cases, with a different/later top yoke. Anybody want to buy a stylish paperweight?

Thanks Eric, just to let you know that I bought it. At the time it was the cheaper option and it looks okay, although I still have a twitch about using e-bay after buying the bike. I'm going to start another post with pictures of the offending top yoke which I picked up earlier today, caveat emptor my backside!

Thanks Eric, I'm looking at it, whilst checking out one that James may have, which requires a little work. It's better than the one I found on e-bay, well cheaper anyway and James says that he's a member on the US Forum, so I may drop him a line.
